I just bought a USED Callaway 19* Hybrid and a NEW Recoil ES F2 shaft and I have two questions:

1. the hosel depth is .75 in and the shaft tip is sanded to 1". Should I drill out the hosel depth to 1"?

2. the shaft OD is 1mm less the hosel ID and it fits loose. Should I use epoxy beads to fill the gap or something else?

This is my 1st club head/shaft installation. I do have a new Ferrell that might cover the 1/4" difference on the shaft tip.

You should not drill the hosel bore deeper.  You should check to see that the bore is free of residual epoxy.

The OD, of a shaft, is typically .005 smaller than the bore.

Some hosels are milled to accept a collared ferrule:  a ferrule that centers the shaft in the top of the hosel.

It is always a good idea to use centering beads.

Lastly.  Some heads feature a universal bore (a bore that will accept both tapered and parallel tipped shafts).  They can seem "loose"  when compared to non-universal bores.

Really lastly.  You can touch up scrapes, on graphite shafts, with clear nail polish.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

That bore should be over an inch. If not, you are going to have to drill out the residue. Technically 3/4 inch is enough area to get a good bond but I would rather have the full amount if possible.

Almost all Callaway use a collared ferrule so that will help with the looseness some. Many of the Callaways run loose. You can use shafting beads but they really are not meant to fill substantial gaps. Should only be using around 5% beads by volume of epoxy. I often resort to a brass shim to get everything nice and snug.

Between cleaning out the hosel and using the collared ferrule, you should have no issue covering the prepped shaft area.

    • Day 5- Slow,  short swings with short practice club.
    • Lemme guess….’ We don’t want any confrontation so nobody says anything.’ Sheesh…..Call him out and fix the problem.
    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
