Well, when I was on my HS golf team we usually golfed. I dont know about your golf team though.

We got to practice twice a week at a Private CC, which was really really nice, that was monday and wednesday, but on thursday we went to a local range and prepared for Fridays matches.

Not really much to it. Just keep the schedule and golf. Oh yea, a car is a must. If your late for practice, you dont get to compete in Fridays match and one of the alternate takes your spot. Happend to me twice, it sucks walking behind the team.

Depends on the HS coach.

I had 2 different HS coaches and before the season started they would usually show us basic instructional videos and teach the newbies the rules and etiquette of the game.

Then when the season started usually the good players or experience players would go out and play golf while the newbies would be stuck on the range while the coach gave them basic tips. After awhile the newbies would then be allowed to play golf.

After finishing the round, we were usually allowed to do what we wanted. Some guys left to go home, some stayed to practice.

On match day usually the non-starters will go out and play before the visiting team shows up.

Usually the coaches in HS are there to monitor the kids to make sure they don't get in trouble and they let the more skilled players learn on their own.

You might learn some rules, and then just hit balls, putt, chip, and play matches

    • let me check, I think my volleyball tournament is on 6/21, and we are just driving up and back the same day. I may be masochistic enough to then to play golf on Sunday (6/22). 🤣. 6/21 is 100% out for me.
    • Thank you for sharing that. He was quite good wasn't he? I was curious, so took a look. He played 19 PGA Tour stroke play events in 2000. He was 263 under par (they did point that out at the end of the video). If you look at each event he played in and take the best score in each event for a player not called Tiger Woods, that combined field score was -259. So he beat the field - where the field resets every week - over the course of an entire season. That's mind blowing.
    • If they have the same handicap it doesn't matter what you take 35% and 15% of. If you have two low handicaps, averaging them is generally unwise as I said in my first response: a scratch and an 18 would get 9 strokes, which is silly given that one of the players is scratch.
    • Thank you iacas! Interesting take on 35% on Lower Hdcp and 15% on higher Hdcp. Two questions. Why did you choose 35% & 15%? What would I do with tied Hdcp? Right now I'm just adding the two Hdcp. and dividing by 2. We have just 2 golfers with a low Hdcp. The other 10 golfers are very similar. With what I'm doing now, the highest Hdcp. difference, in a match, is 8 once and 7 twice, Again, Thank you very much!
    • Depends on a few things but typically a 60* or 54*.    Currently, pitching is the worst part of my game right now....more so the longer pitch shots.   Its either shank city or I get it on the green but nowhere close to the hole.    Now that courses and ranges are finally starting to open, I will be hoping to revamp that part of my game.   Will start with the vids that Iacas posted above.
