Undercutting With the Right (Rear) Hand, Resulting in a Slice, How to Fix That?

I'm undercutting with my right (rear) hand, resulting in a slice. (swinging it like a baseball bat!)   I know this is a common mistake, and I know you want your right hand (right palm) to be square at impact (I think it's been said that your right hand mirrors the club face: undercut it, and you slice, overturn it, you get a hook, you want the palm to be square at impact).

I'm just not sure how to do this.  Where in my swing should I be consciously thinking about my right hand, trying to square up the palm at impact?

(Joke) So… stop undercutting with the right hand.

"Patient: Doc, it hurts when I do this. Doctor: Don't do that."

Anyway… most slices are hit with a face that's actually pretty square, and the path is well to the left.

Can you answer this for me: what is your start line like?

Where does the ball travel for the first 50 yards of its flight? What direction?

So painfully true! (I'm actually a doctor, I tell my patients that all the time!)   I know I'm undercutting with my right hand, I can feel it.  I just cant mentally fix it; it's almost like I can't consciously think of my right hand and what it's doing.  I don't know how to get control of it.

I think my start line is off too; I'm swing the club towards my left.   For the first 50 yards of flight, my ball is actually pretty straight.  (starts to slice thereafter).

I took a less once from a guy who taught me to change my grip to this:  grab the club with the head angled 45 degrees, then twist my wrist to make the club face square at address (essentially my palm is facing out (see pics below).  It worked to some degree (but if I overdo it, I hook it).  Thoughts?

Then work on your path first. Your club face is not too bad.

Now, you likely still swing left because the face was open at one point, and if you just start swinging "straight" it'll probably be open again, but your face is probably square or only slightly open right now, at impact.

Take a stronger grip, keep the right hand on top taking the club back (so the toe doesn't roll up), and then swing out to the right.

Can I ask: what do you mean by the toe rolling up?  I think I might be doing this (I cusp my left hand during my take away).

The toe points up | rather than being like / from the down-the-line view at A2.

    • Pretty solid play for Saso. I enjoyed it. Meechai took a beating. That’s a US OPEN right there!
    • I have played two. I believe Southern Pines #9 should be on the list.
    • I know this thread isn’t based on statistics, but this kind of logic doesn’t work when applied to a single specific case. First of all, these aren’t independent events, like a coin flip. You can’t just multiply the odds.  Second, we are only discussing this case BECAUSE it’s unusual. If something (“Team X wins 21 times in a row”) has a one-in-a-million shot at happening, but there are many similar events, it’s much more likely to happen at any ONE of them. To be clear, I don’t have an opinion either way about this specific Club, but the statistical arguments based on random independent events don’t have any relevance.
    • A bit of summary from playing in the 2024 TST golf outing at The Virtues and Eaglesticks.  I feel like I am starting to figure things out a bit. Especially off the tee. 1st was a bit of a set up change. I lowered my hands a bit, and started to address the ball off the heel with the driver. This helped me to take the high toe ball out of play. I was wearing a spot out on the driver in the high toe area. Next was feeling like I was staying super tall through the downswing. Basically forcing me to get my hands down from the top of the swing better. Finally, realizing I have a lot of swing path before I start pulling the ball left. I was hitting pretty good big pushes off the tee. I didn't have to worry about hitting giant pulls or pull draws if I got my hands down better. It really helped free me up.  Irons are pretty solid right now.  Something I need to work on is full swing wedge shots or partial wedge shots. I am shanking these at a non-negligible  rate. Something with those shots is just off.  No other irons have I come close to shanking it. You give me like 60-100 yards. A yardage I can't really pitch it with a 60, 56, or 52 degree. It's like 33% shank rate. I didn't have another one of these shots. I was about to go to a PW and just pitch it from now on. Set Up: Less reverse K tilt at set up. Lower hands. Especially with the longer clubs and driver.  Backswing: Fling the club back with the turn, and feel it collect to a stop around A3. Backswing length is still a thing to monitor.  Do not rush the downswing. Feel things stop. I can rush the downswing by making the bad body movement to shallow the club instead of using my arms correctly.  Downswing: Feeling of staying tall through out the downswing. Get hands down. Feel like my head doesn't lower or tilt back.  It's like the upper center (chest area) stays very tall.  Putting, I did better when I started to feel some separation in the shoulders. Like, activating each shoulder separately for the back stroke and forward stroke. Feeling it more in the shoulder blades, and less in the torso. Though, I did make one of the worst back strokes ever on a 3-4 FT putt, but somehow still made it. It was kind of interesting thinking at the back of my back stroke, that was horrible. Then just hitting it in the hole.
    • 46+41 for an 87. Driver took a bit to get going. Most of the issues were some hitting balls into hazards or into areas I need to hit recovery shots from. Figured things out and started to play better.
