Yea i agree. I think the 4 piece would be excellent for more distance. I think they should make the new Pro-V1 a 4 peice ball--because with that center core --the ball will definately travel further

I don't understand why people constantly want newer and more technologically advanced equipment every year. Do you guys really want to be hitting a 185 yard 9-iron by 2010? I personally want my game improvements to be from better course management, swing technique and mental attitude. Just my thoughts but for me its more the journey, not the destination.

...now I'm gonna get it though

Remember the farther the ball goes--The less club that i have into the green. And the lesser the club the more accurate the shot will be soo yes technology is the biggest part of the game. Also golf is a lot funner when you hit it further--anyone can own up to that

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

Yea, I cant wait till I can take a pitching wedge out from 170. I think Tiger can already do that though.

The improvements arent going to give you 20 more yards off the tee. So I am all about technology. As long as the club isnt doing the work for me lets go for it.

i didn't mean to come off argumentative but i'd like Titleist to come out with a 4-piece, that's all.

The Pro V1x has two cores, a casing, and a cover. There's your four layers.

I feel like that with Callaway's Tour iX & Nike's new 2008 Platinum, they've got a nice little edge on the ball market right now since they're the ones making 4 pieces while everyone else is sticking with last year's technology.

You're missing the point. If Titleist was three years ahead, now they're two. Furthermore, balls all comply to the ODS. They all go just about as far as a ball can go.

The only differences between the balls are some feel and aerodynamics. The Pro V1 and Pro V1x each have different properties to fit different models of players. They're not "last year's tech" though, and again I doubt you could tell the difference between a 2007 Pro V1 and a 2001 Pro V1. If one ball's feel and aerodynamics suit your game better, fine - but don't make gross mis-statements like "they're a year behind." They're the #1 ball in the world for a reason... play what you want. Why do you feel the need to start a topic like this?
Golfers, or at least the ones i know, like to upgrade as often as they can and this season, I think Titleist, though they make the industry standard as far as balls go, will be missing out on a market that Callaway & Nike will be sharing.

Balogna. And the golfers you know are dumb - you're much better served playing one kind of ball that suits your game and getting to know and trust its performance, not switching whenever you find a new box or something.

Yea i agree Titleist needs to improve the cover of the ball and the distance of the Pro V1. Other balls such as the IX One Platinum Bridgestone B330 and the Wilson ZIP are hard to tell from a Pro-V1 anymore.

All the top-tier balls are hard to tell apart. Just as all the top-tier irons are, the top-tier drivers, etc.

Titleist has the #1 ball in the world, both at retail and on the PGA and LPGA Tours. Saying they need to make some sort of improvement ignores that and, in my opinion, makes you come off as a bit silly.

I disagree. Golf is "funner" when you shoot better scores. Distance is a small and sometimes negligible part of that.

And again, are you unaware that virtually every ball is already hitting the ceiling established by the ODS? The only way you're gonna get a longer ball is to hit it better.

Titleist is the #1 ball PLAYED in the World. I dont necessarily agree that they make the best ball in the world. Theyre slogan is #1 ball in golf---They are of course the #1 PLAYED but no necessary the top performing ball. I love Titleist balls but i just think they are too soft for me. Once again balls come down to personal feel.

But there has to be a damn good reason why they are the most played ball in the world. Which in turn, from the numbers and severe amounts of wins they have over the next ball, does make you think a little bit that they are doing something right with their equipment. Just something else to chew on

I know. I love the pro v1's....My favorite pro v1 is the pro v1 STAR i mean do any of you guys remember that ball. That was like the rarest ball in the history of golf. They need to bring them back man. They were the best

Okay, so now that the original question - "no" - has been answered, this thread's usefulness has come to an end.

    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage. I bolded the big group of each set.  Most beneficial with the weather Round 1: No. 1 tee, Round 2: No. 10 tee 7:40 a.m., 12:30 p.m.: Mark Hubbard, Thorbjørn Olesen, Mac Meissner 7:52 a.m., 12:42 p.m.: Bud Cauley, Vince Whaley, Chandler Phillips 8:04 a.m., 12:54 p.m.: Emiliano Grillo, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Max Greyserman 8:16 a.m., 1:06 p.m.: Kevin Yu, Cam Davis, Gary Woodland 8:28 a.m., 1:18 p.m.: Ricky Castillo, Ryan Gerard, Patrick Cantlay 8:40 a.m., 1:30 p.m.: Adam Schenk, Garrick Higgo, Matt McCarty 8:52 a.m., 1:42 p.m.: Brian Harman, Maverick McNealy, Davis Riley 9:04 a.m., 1:54 p.m.: Sami Valimaki, Lucas Glover, Matt Fitzpatrick 9:16 a.m., 2:06 p.m.: Michael Brennan, Harris English, J.T. • We have a very difficult but mostly showy course this week. Lets see what they got. This course offers so many chances to get into trouble it is really a mental minefield. I am excited to see who can handle it and who cant. Last year we got a foreshadowing of JJ and Rory, I am excited for this year Who do people have winning? what will the winning score be? I am thinking 12 or 13 under
