Check

this out:
Woosnam's worries over his Ryder Cup team are getting more intense. A number of prominent European players won't even be eligible to make the team because they play too much in the United States.

I think they should just go for the world rankings stuff. It's based on a two-year period, with extra credit for majors and so on. Why penalize European players that play on the PGA Tour? What do you think?

They probably should also go by the WGR + Captain's picks. I think this will only get harder for Europe in the future as more players make their home in the US and play the PGA more and more.
I wouldn't be surprised if at some point both teams are going to want the same player, or a player that doesn't make one of the teams could try to jump to the other.
Ahh, Globalization .

This was darned-near inevitable with the PGA pushing hard for high-ranked players, American and European, to get more involved in the PGA tournaments. We're talking big (make that "huge") business here.

The PGA can cry a little if it wants to but I think the idea of going off of the WGR's is a good adjustment. The Ryder Cup ain't exactly "small potatoes" in the revenue department, either, by the way, and, unless somebody is looking to see it turned into a farce (last year's overall American effort notwithstanding ), there needs to be a change of some sort.

Maybe the two top players from each tour should be "automatic" with the remaining ten for each team being "Captain's picks". Perhaps a player wouldn't then feel compelled to play the "Preparation H Open" rather than the British Open just to pick up some points.
