I have a custom fit set of Cobra F9 Irons (5-S) which I've had since last summer. I bought the Cobra F9 driver in January but as a standard club (didn't go for a custom fitting for it).

Both the irons and the driver made a big improvement to my game.

Just wondering if it might have made a bigger difference to get the driver custom fit/would it be worth getting it modified?

and I'm currently looking at getting a new wood, so would it be beneficial to get this custom fit or is standard fine for a driver/wood?

My iron specs are:

1 inch longer

2 degrees up right

and I believe its 4 extra wraps for the grip.

Would my driver and wood have the same changes or could it be completely different?

Your woods are already longer than standard by design so making them even longer is not usually necessary or recommended. You can check the lie angles of the driver and 3 wood yourself to see if the lie angle is okay. Lie isn't really a huge deal with woods especially driver as it doesn't effect ball flight much.

If your grips are bigger however, I would definitely get equally large grips on the woods.

Other than that, if you are hitting the driver well and getting good distance in relation to the rest of the bag, I wouldn't bother changing much. If you feel like you are leaving distance on the table, you might want to do some sort of fitting or at least a side by side with your current driver on a launch monitor to see how the numbers look.

I was fitted years ago for a set of Ping irons and woods. My irons were a blue dot which if I remember correctly is a slightly different lie then their standard black dot. My driver and woods were all "standard", no adjustments needed. I guess I am average in terms of physical build and swing. Same when I was fitted for a Cleveland driver years later. Usually when you buy a club at a name brand store or golf shop it comes with a free fitting vs buying on Ebay or other on-line retailers. I would go with that. Also, I don't remember there being any adjustments for lie angle on a wood or driver although I could be wrong, (I am not an expert in any stretch of the imagination).

I would really like to try some new irons, but local golf clubs including my own only seem to want to fit Ping. I’ve had Ping before and they’re ok but would like to try a range of makes. We have an American Golf here but you always feel pressured into buying, and they only really want to make a sale. I think the major brands should be supplying golf clubs for members to try out on the course in real situations rather than only dealing with one manufacturer or using a simulator. Also these clubs have gone so expensive recently you can’t afford to make the mistake of getting the wrong ones. I often buy off eBay try them then resell. Not ideal, but no pressure from pushy sales staff. Anyone else feel this?

    • Day 521 - 2026-03-06 Got some good work in for 15 minutes or so with someone overseeing. Downswing work.
    • Day 201 3-6 Wider backswing trying to blend it all together for a full swing. Not looking good yet.
    • Day 74 - 2026-03-06 Backswing work out back at the net. Slow.
    • Day 101: did a stack session. Worked on hands down in the mirror during breaks.
    • Got told off yesterday for doing full swings and full speed swings so went to the range this lunchtime and did some slow speed stuff and freezers. A few videos from my session.    First few are DTL then some FO This one is of me looking at the club on the way back. I think I get my arms lifting all the way back, not that you’d know because YouTube keeps glitching on me.    Second one is two slow backswings. This glitches the first one but the glitch looks like a pretty good position so I’ll live. Second one works. Then another swing back and hit. When I’m not watching or really focusing on it it seems that my upper arm doesn’t lift at first, rather stays roughly where it is and I add the lift at the end so the club comes a bit more inside. I think that’s what I’m going to focus on. This one glitches a bit too but it’s really just pausing. This shows the club coming a bit more inside but not as laid off at the top Then a couple of face on ones And lastly one smoothie and one freezer at normal speed  Quite happy with how this went. I can see my arms are better when I take it slower. Also while I’m still pitching my arms out it doesn’t seem to be as extreme as yesterday. Light at the end of the tunnel 🙂
