I personally don't have a need for adjustable weights in my putter. I like the weight of my Studio Style. I like the idea of having the same weight for me it is less confusing and honestly I don't feel like I have enough "touch" to warrant the need to adjust the weight based on green speeds....

Also I love the GSS Insert on the Studio Style.

I have a question: Do the weights in the Studio Select create a higher MOI in the Studio Select putters than the MOI found in the Studio Style putters?

Uhm, maybe. It's still a Newport style putter, though, so it's reasonably okay as far as the perimeter weighting goes, additional weights or not.

SC Studio Select vs SC Studio Style. Which do you prefer and why?

I currently have both in the Newport 2 (Studio Style: 34" 340g; Studio Select 34", 350 g) model and I liked the Studio Style quite a bit. I used it for most of 2006 and all of 2007 and liked the soft feel of the insert (it didn't have a mushy feeling like a lot of other insert putters, IMO). Having said that, I recently tried the Studio Select and was hooked immediately. It just "felt" better from the feel of the cord grip to the overall weight of the putter to how the ball comes off the face. The only negative is the silver headcover, compared to the black of the Studio Style.

As for the adjustable weights, I think it just gives a golfer more options to find a weight that feels good for them without using lead tape (rather than swapping out for green speeds, or whatnot.)

I can honestly say I like the Studio Style better. I think the insert actually adds to the feel and, I think there is better touch on short putts. That being said, they are both very similar putters, and, chances are, whichever one you chose, you probably wouldn't regret the decision.

The studio style felt muted to me, I couldn't really feel longer putts because of the insert. I am very happy with the select as it is heavier and gives me the responsive feel that I need.

I've never been a fan of the Style, seems kind of cheep to me. The Select however is solid. Forget that the weights are interchangeable because you will never change them. But they sure are cool. They give the putter a real pro look. I like them heavy so I buy the 33 and put a plug in it. Sweeeet

I currently have the Studio Style and have really enjoyed it. I find the insert and GSS face are really responsive and give you a lot of feedback depending on where you hit it on the face while still producing a really nice roll regardless.

I tried the Studio Select in the store to compare and did like the standard grip quite a bit more than the Style which I had replaced. It seemed to produce a more consistent feel accross the face for me but not quite as much feedback. They both seemed to roll the ball the same to me though and as NYKFan4Life mentioned you probably can't go wrong with either one.

My opinion on the looks is the Style looks much better, especially for me after I got a white/gold paintfill instead of the circus colours but I still preferred that to the big bold red graphics on the new model, just not my cup of tea and that headcover is nasty.

I have all the Newport 2 OTC putters. From the art of putting to the Teryllium to the Pro Platinum, tto the Stainless to the GSS insert. So I went to the golf galaxy to get my select. I took my studio Stainless to see if I felt a difference. I changed the grip to the new cord because that is clearly a better grip and the stainless has been my gamer for a while. (The GSS insert though was really nice when we had a drought last summer and the green were RUNNING). So I did a blind test with by buddy. I could not tell the difference in the two putters with the same grip. I could feel the weight when I knew which putter, but that was not enough to make me want to just buy it at full price. So, I am waiting for a used one to turn up.

Has anyone putted with a GSS Newport 2? THAT IS THE BEST PUTTER EVER!

I agree with jhauser77. I have the Studio Stainless (never did care for the Studio Style) and could not tell the difference when hitting the Select. Both are 35' 330g and they felt the same. I believe I will also wait to catch one for cheap. I picked up my Stainless on ebay 4 years ago for $150. I do like the look of the mid-slant Select so I think that will be my option when I do find one.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
