who has the better golfers....these two nations have produced some great golfers...and continue to be the standard for golf outside of America.. I honestly cant decide.

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

Australia has a track record of producing great golfers and there are a few on tour..I will list all the players of each country that were or are prominent on the world scene.

Australia: Wayne Grady, Greg Norman, Adam Scott, Stuart Appleby, Robert Allenby, Craig Parry, Nick O' Hern, Aaron Baddeley, Steve Elkington, Matthew Goggin, Nathan Green, Peter Lonard, Geoff Ogilvy (of course), Rod Pampling, Steven Leany..there are others less well known on the PGA tour

South Africa: Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, Roger Wessels, David Frost, Tim Clark...?

So to answer the question, Australia produces the best golfers.- next question (lol!).

It a tough call. South Africa has produced Gary Player, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, and Trevor Immelman (you could probably count Nick Price as well). Australia has produced Greg Norman, Steve Elkington, Stuart Appleby, Robert Allenby, and Adam Scott.

From a pro standard they are probably pretty equal. I hear quite often that Australia has a strong golfer training program, so as far as producing stronger golfers in general the nod may go to them (if its not an over hyped ploy).

Gary Player was more successful than any other South African or Australian player.

How many Australians, playing today, have won a Major? One. South Africa has three.

South Africa has produced more accomplished players.

Steve Elkington has a major as well as Ogilvy

Three or four years ago I'd have said South Africa for sure, but, this is not three or four years ago... I wouldn't call it an overwhelming decision to either country. I'd call it equal. I do love seeing Retief playing good this weekend though. Very exciting!

I suppose it is around equal at the moment, however in the next 10 years Australia will produces vast amounts of top quality golfers and will dominate the top 50 in the world rankings, their grass roots sport programmes are better than any other country and from this their number of successful golfers will be high.

currently, i'd say australia with form. the aussies i think are currently performing better than the safas and have a lot more good players on the rise atm(e.g. scott, ogilvy, etc) than south africa but south africa has a few awesome golfers(els, goosen) if you get my drift. and trying not to be bias, but goosen has won 2 us opens, but other than that he hasn't won a load of tournaments. seems to be a big game player. however you could say the same about ogilvy. peter thompson you may not know, won the british open 5 times for aus. on all time scaling, you'd have to say its pretty even

I agree with the expectation that Oz will produce a lot of golfers. Whatever sport it turns its mind to, it seems to do well at - cricket, rugby league, rugby union, swimming, even football (the real one, with the round ball, played with the feet).

Makes ya sick!!! I expect SA will continue to produce outstanding golfers, too, though maybe not as many. Rugby union and cricket are the sports they really throw themselves into - and football (round ball, played with the feet) is rising in popularity and participation, too. BUT - ultimate success will depend on what others are doing. Tiger came along without the benefit of a national, state-sponsored programme, as did Seve. But - r7 "...and continue to be the standard for golf outside of America..." You may not have heard of Seve Ballesteros, Jose-Maria Olazabal, Sergio Garcia, Bernhard Langer, Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam, Colin Montgomerie, Justin Rose, Padraig Harrington, Paul Casey, David Howell, Ian Poulter and Richard Johnson (won the Nationwide last year) but none of them is from either Australia or SA and I'd say they were involved in 'setting the standard' over quite a long period of time, inside or outside the US...

I completely forgot about the LPGA players until now. There are a decent amount of good women players from Australia including Karrie Webb and Rachel Hetherington, but I don't recall hearing about any players contending from South Africa in recent memory.
