Since I have recently, in the past three years, joined a golf league, I was wondering how slope and rating were etermined and what affect it has in the calculation of a golfer's HC.

I joined my local country club as an associate ths year so I'm just more interested in all of the concepts of golf.

http://golf.about.com/cs/rulesofgolf..._determine.htm As far as HC is concerned, the tougher the slope and rating, the lower the HC is. For example, if I shoot an 82, over 20 rounds, on a course that is 73/132, my HC would be in the neighborhood of a 6. However, that same number on a course that is 69/113, the HC is almost 13.

Ok, I'm trying to figure out how good/bad I really am then. I play at a course where the course rating is 70.8 and the slope rating is 133. My handicap there is 14...and the survey says?

Sounds like you are in the low 90s. Is that right?

Actually no, I normally am in the low-mid 80's at that course. The greens are extremely fast and undulating. My league is only a 9 hole league I did get better last year and I shot 40 there three times. Of course there have been times when I shot 48 there as well. I am a purist when I golf though, i.e. my league utilizes a "fluff" rule, I never fluff it because I want to get better. I do know that when I go to local public courses, they seem to be a lot easier now that I have played a more difficult course. I was able to shoot a 78 last year on a public course. Since I joined the club this year I will get a more comprehensive HC, as I will have more than 16 rounds in at that course.

Why don't you just track your handicap yourself... enter every score you still have (can remember) and see waht it is. This way you don't just have scores from one course.

So would it be better to play a harder course, easier course, or mix it up...

If what you say is accurate, how do the tourny's flight HC's? If I am a 20 and play on slopes of 123, and my buddy is a 20 and plays on 113 then we won't be competitive w/ each other as 20 HC's. How would he compete on a my course of 123?

You're buddy would have a HC that is adjusted for your course. This is why some golfers will say "Depending on X course, I'm a 7."

Using your example, your buddy might be a 22 or 23 on your course.

That makes sense...How or where can you find the adjustments...or how to calculate them. I don't want to give him to many strokes...his liquour is expensive...LOL

http://golf.about.com/od/handicaps/l...ndicapcalc.htm That should cover it.

    • Day 75 (15 Jul 25) - Wedge work today in the backyard.  Focused on setup and  dialing in on immediate target line point in front of club. This drill helps me to center on longer range targets for tee shots as well as approaches.
    • I still need to do my pieces better.  Still a little steep in the downswing. Hands could get better depth earlier in the backswing.  This shot started left of target and went left. Probably path was out, face was closed a lot.       At A5, it’s probably the best it’s been.  I need to feel more shallowing from A5 to A6. Hands need to go straight down and club needs to shallow. I need to turn. I am just way too closed here. Just trying to buy time to lower the arms. Everything stalls from time to time. Timing is highly variable. Not a big fan of the slight EE.  I am just hanging back at impact.

I did not do very well but did shoot a 112 playing both right and left handed.   So, I decided to take a breather and play golf on my Play Station 5 and not play any real golf until the new set of clubs get her.  So, I will be back in  a week or so and bring everyone up to date.    Retired Old Man = Terry
