I'm heading to San Antonio, TX in May and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on courses to play there. I'm planning on playing at "The Palmer Course at La Cantera".

Anyone have any other suggestions for the San Antonio area or any reviews on the Palmer course?

Thanks!!

I keep hearing good things about a course called The Quarry. Don't know anything about it, but it might be worth looking up.
What's in the bag:

G10 9 degree, TFC 129 shaft, stiff
Big Bertha 3 Wood
FTX 2i, Apex Plus 3i-E MP-R 52/07 and 56/13 Zing

I have played there a couple of times. So here's my 2 cents.

The Quarry is 1/2 of a lot of fun. 9 holes are played inside an old limestone quarry. The other 9 is a links style. The quarry 9 is unique and challenging. The links 9 feels like any other attempt at links style. Try to play twilight 'cause I think its a bit overpriced.

It is easy to get to if your are staying downtown. Right off the 281 and inside the 410 loop. Some good restaurants right there at the shopping center.

    • Day 51 (yesterday was 50, not 59 -- that was a typo).  I didn't have a ton of time today.  I hit a dozen balls with a 6-iron in my practice room.   Amazingly, after this I did the ShotScope analysis of yesterday's round;  my approach play was at the 5 hcp level.  That's pretty darn good, but unfortunately for my score, some of that came from hitting a few good recovery shots.  But I also hit some really good approach shots that weren't from trouble!

    • Shot a 37 today! Palmer Course, PGA National. Really fun. 6/9 GIR, no lost balls. The double and the bogey were both three putts from like 35 feet or so.  The birdie at the last was really fun. I stood over that fifteen footer and thought wow I’m really about to make this, aren’t I? And I hearted it. Really fun. It’s like 9000 degrees outside but I battled through it well. Good times.
    • I had been in a bit of a slump for the month of June. Handicap index has slowly risen, and there were few sub-80 scores. Today was a different story at Leslie Park GC. Lots of solid shots, GIR's, up & downs, for a 77 (7.8 differential). As with most rounds, there were a few loose shots and crappy putts, but it was a good day.
