Hole 8 at my club. It's about a 260 yard par 4 if you play down the fairway. The smart way to play the hole is to hit a 200 yard shot down the fairway. It's a sharp dogleg left. Then hit a little pitch on the green and make your putt. If you go at the hole from the tee, it's about 220, but there is water in front and left of the hole with bunkers guarding the right side of the hole. Also, there are trees guarding a straight line to the hole from the box and trees before the hole and the water in front. It is a well-guarded risk/reward short par 4.

This kid on our high school golf team holed one yesterday for a double eagle. Man, I've played 700 rounds on the course, and the closest I've seen is about three feet.

This made me wonder...

Have you ever had a double eagle or witnessed one? Tell us about it.

Guy I know holed one at a local course's par four just a week or two ago here. The only double eagles I've ever seen have been on TV.

I've got one...on Golden Tee.
I've hit onto some short par 4's (mostly executive courses) but never close enough to consider getting in the hole.

thanks for reminding me, that there is still something to shoot for for me! After the hole-in-one this season my motivation level went down
But seriously - a few close calls on a short par 5 at my home course, but never got it. I've 8 hole-outs from the fairway on par 4's - can I trade them in for ONE double eagle?!?!?

I had a double eagle about 2 years ago. Arrowhead C.C. in Myrtle Beach, on the Waterway Nine, #4 Par 5 520 yards. Hit driver 7 iron aaannnnd .... it's in da hole!

I had a bad day at work and called my buddy. He said he couldn't go due to Daddy Duty. I talked him into bringing his 6 year old daughter and I brought my 2 year old daughter and we went out for a de-stressing nine. Followed it up with a Hole In One less than a month later. I've been a single digit capper since I was 14 yo and that so far as been my only HIO and only DE.

    • . I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years, 1 year consistently  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 My typical ball flight is: fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: inconsistent ball strike   I caught the bug about a year ago and have been playing roughly once a week. Have been getting better with my short game and putting but my ball striking from tee and fairway lets me down. Had my first lesson last month which identified an over the top swing compensated by an open club face. Have been trying everything to get on plane over the last month. Have found that using a bend and press into my left leg as the trigger for my downswing coupled with finding the turn and rotation in both my arms to release the club properly has helped my get nearer to the correct plane. Video below is where I am with it currently. Haven’t taken this new swing to the course yet! Any comments or suggestions are welcome  Videos:  I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year properly  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 av score
    • That's always been the deal. You put in the work hyper focused on ONE or at most two things, so that you don't have to think about anything except a single feel or the target or something on the course.
    • Blind squirrel finds a nut and putted well. no, I decided to play a round being athletic rather than paralyzing myself with swing thoughts. I have no clue if I was doing what I worked on. It was the last day and I was tired of freezing at the top of the swing not know if one of four outcomes were going to happen.
    • Day 299 - 2025-07-26 I spent 15 minutes practicing but it was almost pointless. It wasn't good practice. I was not really in it, but I put the time in. Oh, I did some chipping work before-hand, and that was good. I could have just left after that. 🙂
    • Well that's different.
