Ok, here's the situation I'm in. Tomorrow I'm going to be ordering a new set of irons. Compared to the standard for the brand I am buying, I measure 3/4" over standard and 3 degrees upright. So here's where the issue comes in. I currently play Dynamic Gold shafts at the same length, which makes my current irons come in at about a D8 swingweight. I'm used to this and I love the solid feel. I want to stick with the ball flight, feel, and characteristics of the DG because they fit me really well. The guy who went through my fitting though suggested considering the Dynamic Gold SL so that I could keep most of the DG characteristics and keep the swingweight down a bit considering the additional length. I don't mind the high swingweight of my current irons, so I'm not sure if I should just stick with what I'm comfortable with or if I should get the DG SL instead. Does anyone know of a reason to go with the SL other than a possibly lighter swingweight, which doesn't feel like that big of an issue to me? Thanks in advance for any advice. Excited to order the new irons.

According to Ralph Maltby, a lighter shaft will require a heavier head weight to get back to the original swingweight. So in your case, given that the headweights are the same weight and that you are switching to a lighter shaft, the swingweight "could" go from D0 (your current set) to C9 (your new set). 1. I think you need to ask your pro, what is the current swing weight of your set. Perhaps he knows your swingweight and believes it to be too high according to his expertise. However, swingweight to an extent is based on feel. 2. Then calculate the swingweight of your new set based on manufacturers specs (note that every increase in 1/2" is an increase in 3 swingweights). Then compare. If the swingweight is still too low, there are other means of increasing swingweight (ex. lead tape, different types of fills inside shaft/head in various points.) Correct me if I'm wrong, but a lighter shaft, given that the flex is the same would create more clubhead speed, thus more distance. This is the advantage of TT Dynamic Gold SL.

    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
    • I've played the Tour in both white and yellow.  They play well and seem to hold up pretty good even when running into trees or cart paths.  Right now, I've been trying them against the Bridgestone Tour B RX ball and I really like both.  The Snell 3.0 looks to be a great update to the issues Snell was running into with the previous generation.
