Hi,

I have tried quite a few drivers over the last year. I settled for the Cleveland Hibore XL.
It is long and very forgiving. Dirvers I have tried are Callaway which was a close second.
Also, Taylormade, Adams, Nickent, and Titleist. It really comes down to feel and swing.

Good luck on the driver search.

The D2 is a very nice driver, i loved it when i hit. I have the Hibore XL wich the ball seems to jump off the club face and is forgiving. The Taylor Made Burner is another good driver, it is forgiving and seems to have a hot face. I have heard also a lot of very good things about the ping G10. but if you have already hit the D2 and like it, i would go with that, its a really nice club

I just switched my whole wood set from Titleist to Ping G10 series.

G10 was the best performer IMO. Burner TP is quite good as well.

However, if you are planning to go for Titleist, 905R is a much better
club compared to 907D2 IMO. I owned both 905R and 907D2 before.

Pretty much all of the players drivers are great, including:
Ping G10
Titleist 905R (also extremely cheap on ebay)
907.D2
Hibore XL Tour (also cheap)
Burner TP

All great, my favourite being the 905R, long, workable and forgiving I find.

Giving reasons would be nice... Did you try them with the same shaft? Were you fitted for both?

I disagree with that statement 100%. For me, it's about backspin, and the 905R had too much of it. Same shafts in both of them and everything, and full reviews written on both.

WELL, id say the best second hand drivers bang for buck on the market are:

Titleist 905 R (stiff)- they are cheap, as has already been said, and they are very proficient in what theyre supposed to do;

Ping G10

Cleveland Hi Bore ( they are so cheap secon hand its crazy)

Taylor Made r7 425

Nike Sas Quatch (not the sumo2)- they are great drivers.

I always look out for the drivers with the modified Pro Force ORANGE shaft in them for extra performance.

That is why I put IMO (in my opinion). You can disagree 100% or 200% but I was just writing my own opinion.

Yes, tried both same shafts. 905R had better feel/sound, distance, more roll and just overall better suited for my own swing. For me 907D2 was giving me less distance and didn't feel that the face was explosive... More personal thing I guess. But now Ping G10 all the way for me!!!

My problem with your "opinion" is that you didn't even state a reason why. You simply said "one is so much better" but you didn't list any reasons. That's "r7 425" (the poster, not the club) territory.

905R had better feel/sound, distance, more roll and just overall better suited for my own swing.

Quite honestly, I doubt that. The 905R tends to launch higher and with a bit more spin than the 907D2 (straight from Titleist), and that's not conducive to "more roll."

I find your mini-obsession with roll bizarre. Good players don't worry about roll. You've mentioned roll several times now and talked about a "piercing, low" ball flight. Something tells me you don't really know how to be properly fit for a driver. It's all about maximizing carry these days.
For me 907D2 was giving me less distance and didn't feel that the face was explosive... More personal thing I guess.

Yes, but we've already established that you're abusing the word "explosive" to mean "sounds high-pitched" and perhaps tinny, contrary to the way most people use the term (distance, perhaps even just on mis-hits given that most drivers have a CoR of nearly 0.83).

The key too any driver is the shaft, the head can become almost irrelevant if the shaft is correctly built to your ideal specifications

Sorry, didn't really get what you meant by r7 425 territory...

Maybe the difference is my golfing ability compared to 905R days. I used to play in the high 90's to 105's during those days. When I was playing with 907D2 was in the mid/low 80's to low 90's. Yes, I do have a mini obsession about roll. Maximum carry and nice straight roll would be a plus for me. But my preference for 905R still stands.

I think I also established the fact that english is my second language so there was a mis-com. Thank you for the definition.

The biggest thing here is to see your pro!!! GET FITTED, reputable guys will use a launch monitor OUTDOORS, and have a variety of clubs and shafts for you to hit, launch monitor will tell everything you need to know, but the ball flight visual is a MUST!! THERE IS NO WAY ONE CAN BE FIT FOR ANY CLUB INDOORS!! I have never seen anyone, 'cept for the occasional pro that comes thru our shop, not have some myths debunked when they get fit on a launch monitor!

"r7 425" is someone who posts on this forum.

As for the original post, I'm dying to try the Tour Burner TP. Maybe you should give that a try. The Titleist D2 and 905R were both great drivers for me. I never really tested them extensively though but I like their looks.

I just got one today..I played the 905T and just wanted to "upgrade". Just curious how it going to play..to be honest I'm buying it blind (it was fairly cheap on Ebay) with a regular GD YS-6+ shaft, -1".

Your profile states that your handicap is 0.6. With a handicap that low I doubt that you'll see much, if any, difference in an off the shelf driver. You would need a professional fitting and a custom built club. You're probably good enough to take most any off the shelf driver and make the necessary adjustments to hit it better than the same club in the hands of the average golfer. What you need is a club that's built to take full advantage of your potential.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
