Should I be playing a Pro-v1 x?

Hi guys. I have a driver swing speed of about 105 mph. My irons slow to about 85 mph. Do you guys think its worth switching to the x or should I stay w/ the normal pro-v1. I am really looking to get a little extra distance, but i need the soft feel.

I think the best thing is to buy a sleeve (or trade with your buddies if they use them) of the 'x' and see what you think. For me (my swing speed is a little faster than yours), the 'x' may go slightly further with the driver (maybe 5-10 yds tops) but that distance is not very noticable to me. There is not that much difference in a 120 yard approach shot and one that is 125. I would say the iron shots are almost identical. Maybe an extra yard or two, but not enough to make a huge difference.

The big difference for me is the spin off the iron shots. I get much more spin with the regular Pro V-1. I think most of that is just how I make contact with the ball. I know guys who use the 'x' and don't swing as fast as me, but they are able to hit the ball in such a way they generate a lot of spin. Although one course I play has tight-cut fairways and very receptive greens and I will use the 'x' on that course. I got tired of seeing the regular spin off the front of the green after hitting a normal shot. When I made the switch, the ball would stop where it landed.

The best thing about golf balls is that you can try many different types at a minimal expense and find out what works best for you.

I agree. I cant notice any other significant difference between the two other than the Pro V1 spins a lot more hitting into the greens than the Pro V1X. At least for me it does.

you said that your werelooking for more distance so the pro v1 x will definately give atleast 5 to 12 yards mor distance and it will also have slightlty lower launch conditions. i personally think the v1 spins more but on the feb issue of golf magazine (the ball test one)it showed the x spinning more so i think it is a pretty safe bet for you to make the switch

i forgot to mension that the pro v1 x is slightlry less durable the the pro v1. the x is used by most tour pros

Higher with less spin, lower with more spin - that's the usual combo you find in golf balls. The TaylorMade TP Black/Red are the same way, basically.

I don' think it would hurt you to change. If you can afford the slightly decreased spin in the irons, then go for it.

Go to your basement and do an "extremes test". Open the face of your sand wedge and hit a couple of shots with a Pro V or other soft ball. Then, grab a Top Flite, Slazenger or some other hard ball and hit the same open faced sand wedge. You should notice a significantly higher ball flight in the hard ball.

Yep. He got it right again. I'm just disappointed he didn't know what those ball testers were smoking... he should have known that too.

Pro V1x flies noticeably higher than the Pro V1. I play it because I hit it straighter and for the slightly firmer feel off the putter. Great ball.

i do that all the time the soft balls flie really low but the spin usally stops them in about 1 to 2 bounces.

the hard balls on the other hand all preform the same with the exception of a few they just go way up and have no stopping power

This makes sense - and is what I've experienced when I compared the two balls, but the descriptions on the Titleist website are a little confusing.

I guess this means that the V1 is slightly higher when compared to the prior V1 and the V1x is slightly lower when compared to the prior V1x?

At any rate, I prefer the V1x. My swing speed with the driver is ~108 and the V1x was consistently longer off the tee with plenty of spin for me with the irons and wedges. Plus, I prefer the firmer feel with the putter.

hi - I am a 14 handicap and I just stepped up my ball choices to better balls - I have been using the pro V1. here is my question. - since I am moving from nxt tours - both the v1 and v1x will give me noticably more spin. I like a lightly firmer putter feel - so the X sound sgood

BUT

my swing speed is between 94-96 mph- I hit the ball HIGH - my Aldila NVS prolly helps and I have a natural draw- sometimes its a little to pronounced actually

Do I swing fast enough for the v1x???

Will it help keep my ball a little lower then the v1?

those are my two main concerns??

Yes, I thought you needed a faster swing for the PV1X..but if it launches higher maybe I should switch too. I do know that the PV1X feels a tad harder.
