Few weeks ago, I tried my friend's 2007 Cobra LD M Speed Driver at the range.
Wow I was impressed, even though the shaft was a bit too whippy and the draw bias was too much for me.
After that, I went into the store and tried the 2007 LD F Speed a few times. I really liked it.
When my swing was a bit off, I hit slight fade.
When my swing was on, I hit straight or draw.
The lightweight shaft was just what I needed.
(I've tried other drivers with 65g shafts. They just felt heavy. I couldn't square the club face no matter how hard I try.)

What do you guys think about Cobra drivers?
In 2008 they have L4V and LD models with different shafts from 2007 models.
What do you think about the shafts?

I love my F-Speed driver and 3-Wood. I bought them both used, but they had the exact specs I needed, so it worked out very well

The shaft... well, I haven't tried that many, so I really can't offer an informed firsthand opinion. I feel bad shots, but they don't hurt. They just send a message from the clubhead up to me asking for an apology for what just happened.

They're great drivers, long and forgiving. I have heard the stock shafts play whippy though . But wow, you can hear one from a mile away.

the ball doesn't launch too high on you?

with 10.5 degree, reg flex, i launch the ball 18 degree. i might go with 9 degree to bring it down a little.

If you've found a driver that you really like, what possible interest could you have in what others think?

A lot of us seem to need to have our opinions confirmed by other people - some of whom only read the ads for these products. Mate - if you've found a driver you like, go for it. Are you going to stop liking it if others don't?

I used Cobra drivers for the past three years. The most recent was the 2007 LD F model. I tried the 2008 composite and didn't like it. The Cobras have a slightly (some would say more than slightly) closed face, they are loud, they have some correction on off center hits and I think they are very fine drivers. The company certainly offers a variety of options for a variety of players. After trying several new drivers on a launch monitor at Golfsmith, I found the one which worked best for me was the Callaway Hyper X. I hit farther and more consistently than I did my 2007 Cobra. To be fair, I didn't compare it to the 2008 LD F model because those drivers had not been released at the time of my fitting.

You may wish to give the Callaway a try if you are looking for a driver that offers some forgiveness and will really fly when you pop it on the screws.

Good luck.

Maybe I am confused, but would believing in this completely contradict this entire category of this forum?

I can't say you are wrong. But there were times when I liked something so much I was blind to see things that I later dislike and regret.

Just wanna double check. You know? Anyways, I just hit a couple of shots with launch monitor. I generate too much backspin with the stock shaft and launching it way too high. Good thing I didn't buy right away ;)

I just tried out the 2008 Speed LD F with the Graphite Design Stiff shaft today on a simulator and really started to like it. I play an older Cobra right now and am in the process of finding a new driver as I need to up the shaft to a stiffer flex. I found the LD to be quite accurate, have a nice feel and I ended up pounding a few of the balls so its definitely near the top of my list.

I'm going to get fitted on the launch monitor soon and was looking for a bit more info on this shaft if anyone had some insight. I saw on GD's website that the torque seems quite high in comparison to the numbers on most other shafts i've seen but I have to say that it felt quite accurate and smooth.

Sorry man, I didn't see your question initially.

I don't launch the ball too high, but I have a (relatively) slow swing speed. You're between regular and stiff ; I'm solidly in the regular flex category.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
