Okay, so after much thinking, i've decided on this setup for next year :

-9.5º Driver with a Pro Force 75 shaft. Not sure what brand to get but prob. Cleveland, Callaway or Titleist.

-14.5º, 15 or 15.5º 3 Wood. I'm going to try to find something that i can hit well off the tee and off of the fairway on long par 4's/5's. Any suggestions on what company makes the best one of these would be great.

-19º 2 Iron. Instead of a hybrid wood looking club, I want to buy a cavity/fusion backed iron. I would use a pretty much all players club/blades setup for my 3-9 irons but with the 2, i would get something with a little more forgiveness but still with an iron look instead of a hybrid or fairway wood style.

-3 through 9 irons in a players iron in the style of the Titleist AP2. Not exactly blades but not straying too far from them. (Using Cleveland CG1 Black Pearls now)

-PW/SW/LW : Here's the QUESTION.

I want to get an all Vokey 200 series wedge setup. For the PW, I would replace my standard PW that comes with my irons with the 48º Titleist Vokey with 6º of bounce.

Now, for the SW & LW, I was thinking about a 54º lofted, 10º of bounce for the SW (bunker, 95-115 yard fairway shots) and then for the LW, a 58º with 8º of bounce for those short pitch and high around the green lob shots. What do you guys think about this wedge setup?

I'm all set with the putter but the other clubs i would really appreciate opinions on. Thanks.

I got this detail wrong on the other thread, but Mizuno has the MP FLI-HI. Since that wasn't what you were asking here, I posted on

your other thread saying I was wrong a few days ago and giving more detail.

Yeee... 6 degree difference just screams to me. I view it as a bad idea to have more than about 5 degrees between wedges unless you know the exact distance gap between them is appropriate. If you're going to have the gap, make it between the last two, not the second and third to last ones. However, this would put you at either 52 and 58 or 52 and 56, with the latter not offering much in terms of lobbing unless you open the face.

driver- burner, superquad, ft5, hibore xl. all good, and good prices nowadays

Woods- R7, burner, 906F4, or hibore are the best on the market, i would say.

irons- you are spot on there

wedges...ah...sometimes, i must ask why people insist on swapping out the pw for a vokey..Unless you plan on using it around the green alot, i would not do this. check out perhaps the AP2 pw, try it, and if you really dont like it, get hte vokey. I am reasonably sure the AP2 is 48-47 degree right? so really, your lofts wont be affected. I have a 52, and a 60 wedge. they carry 90, and 70 yards. so you would have perhaps a 20 yard gap in yardages? just guessing..

as for hybrids...i was in the same boat. i ballooned 7 and nine woods, and cant hit the hybrids... so i bought these. Titleist 503 H hybrid irons. They are very nice, (as is the clevland LDI) They really do work well, not as forgiving as a hybrid, but still alot better than a two iron.. if you have any questions about them, pm me, there still for sale =)

Eh, I think that the whole "four wedges" thing is a bunch of poo, as is "closing the gap." I regularly play a 48/54/60 setup. Currently I have a 48/53/60 setup in the bag because Mizuno doesn't have a 54. So be it.

Heaven forbid you learn to open the face a little bit or change the length of your swing to control trajectory and shot distance. I think adding a fourth club just confuses most people, and I don't like being limited to only 4-degree gaps because you lose a lot of range/flexibility. I do think a lob wedge is something to be treated very carefully, so if you went 48/52/56, that'd be the reason to do that (lob wedge avoidance), but don't necessarily go that route just to eliminate "gaps." Gaps only exist if you can't master the 3/4 and 1/2 wedge shots. How often inside of 115 yards are you "right on the number" anyway? Almost never. Thus nearly every wedge shot requires some level of touch. Having a 6 degree gap almost forces you to learn your distance benchmarks (if you're doing the Pelz type system). Most players I've seen with smaller gaps in their wedges know only one distance for them: the distance they hit them full out. Put them between yardages (gaps still exist) and they usually aren't sure what to do. So let me put in my two cents: if you want and can hit a 60 responsibly, don't worry so much about the gaps. I'd try to space them evenly (like mine: 48, 54, 60), but don't worry about how big the gaps are. Figure out how far a 3/4 and a 1/2 swing go with each club and go from there.

Actually, this is a very good point. I tend to think of my wedges as 10-, 11-, etc irons. I'll probably improve if I get used to the Pelz system for wedges.

    • Fantastic selection! And very little driving between them. Fingers crossed the weather is good to you.
    • Day 20: 2026.01.22 Hit about twenty balls at the range. Quietly pleased with how the changes are bedding in, surprsingly consistent ball flight. Hoping to film over the weekend to capture new movement.
    • You might also consider a tune-up lesson. Check and see if anything in your set-up or basic swing is holding you back. I have been playing for more than five decades, but on occasion I've had to make swing tweaks due to age, loss of flexibility, etc. You don't have to reinvent your swing. A couple of static set-up changes might really help out.
    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
