I've really started to get into lawn care and noticed I have St. Augustine grass in my yard.  It's thick blades and coarse texture made me wonder about its suitability as golf course rough.  I haven't noticed any courses here in central NC that have it, but it's ability to handle salt fairly well had me wondering about courses near the coast.

Have any of you played at a course that has St. Augustine grass?

Yes. Here in Florida, Orlando area for me, we have it all over the place. It’s damn near impossible to play any decent shot out of it if it’s kept more than 4-5” tall.
