I have a hard time hitting my 3 iron and my 4 iron is tough, but i'm working on it, and i kinda want to get rid of my 5 wood. i went to a bridgestone demo day today and hit their 3h, the J36 model, about 40-50 times and LOVED it!! My only question is what hybrids replace what irons?? I don't quite understand the hybrid to iron conversion.

thanks..

Well, a 4 Hybrid replaces and 4 iron, a 3 hybrid replaces a 3 iron, etc etc. If you really love it, get it and replace your 3 iron with it. And the 4 iron is a great club, i'd practise with it and learn to hit it good.

But then again, some lofts are different, so A 4 Hybrid could actually replace a 3 iron depending on the loft.

The above post's information can become a little problematic. I've figured its best to check the loft of the hybrids you're interested in...and see which one hits consistently the distance you are looking to fill. A quick example about why just thinking a 4 hybrid replaces a 4 iron is that taylormade's 4 hybrid is 22degrees while my cleveland halo 3 hybrid is also 22degrees. Simply put, check the lofts, find one that corresponds closely to the club's loft you are trying to replace, perhaps a slightly weaker loft seeing as a hybrid should go a tad bit further than an iron of the same loft.

I had to get away from thinking about what each manufacturer called a 2,3 or 4 hybrid and even what loft they were. Irons and hybrids hit so differently that you really have to test them out. Also, I had to think about what I wanted to use my hybrid for. I decided that I didn't simply want a 2-iron or 5wood replacement, but I wanted a club I could hit both off the fairway and the rough (so more of a rescue). My Titleist 21 degree hybrid gets me both, even though technically it is called a 3-iron replacement and I have a 3-iron too. The hybrid goes about 200 yards, where my 3-iron is about 190. Hope this helps.

    • Just exaggerating the crap out of sending the club head back and behind me in the downswing.  just trying to learn how to feel the club head working down back and under my hands into impact. It’s been a battle against the steepening pattern.  most of the time, as soon as I initiate torso, turn the right hand just wants to twist over the left and steep in the club to send the club out towards the ball. 1. Back swing looks better and it’s getting easier to not have to think as much about it. Lots of maintaining the hands in front of my torso as I turn.  2. From A2.5 to A5, its juts trying to flip the wrists over and drop them down. Trying to keep the right palm up as much as possible. Then pray I can turn to hit the ball.

    • Thank you, sir.  As I sit here right this moment I'm mentally gearing up for Wednesday Night golf league. I'm stoked to play as I'll be very curious if I've found something real or if it's just a blip on the radar.
    • That is a 9.8 differential if my calculations are correct. That would be an exceptional score if it is 7.0 less than your handicap index. Congrats
    • I believe that @billchao has suggested that I fall into this category.  .... Although technically I believe he referred to me as an "ass-clown". ... Which at the time seemed like a compliment. 🤷‍♂️
