I just purchased a new set of Cobra S9 irons (4 - GW). I am a very high handicapper and now need to look at getting a hybrid and some wedges? I was hoping to get a hybrid for about a $100. Any suggestions on what to look for?

Regarding the wedges, my cobras come with a PW - 44 and GW - 49. Do I need to get something like a 54 and 60 wedge?

Does anyone have any experience with the Adams "Tom Watson" wedges? They have a 3 pak 52/56/60 for $99.

I plan on taking some lessons to really improve this summer and plan to purchase a driver later this fall.

The Tom Watson wedge set is quite good, I have two sets of them. I prefer the 2007 model, which has a very nice satin finish. I was not crazy about the grips, but you may like them OK. I re-gripped them and play them regularly now.

Here's a very good deal on them:

As far as hybrids -- your best bet will be with a hybrid that is a model year or two old. You will get the best deal with still current technology. Adams, Nickent, Cobra are a few companies that come to mind that have easy to hit hybrids that are very high quality and can certainly be had for under $100 (some close to half that).

Thanks for the link for the wedges. I guess I was just a little worried about these since they are at such a great price.

strong lofted irons... get the three pack-- you may need to tweak the 52 a tad but see how they play out. say 54 and than a 58.. get'em and work themout and see how you hit them. hybrids.. get a22* 1st.. see the distance hit and go from there. good advise- look at clubs one year old and great deals run amuck..

    • Attempting to lift. Any better?
    • Day 82: mirror work again tonight. Working on the same shoulder down and roll and twist stuff. Going on vacation tomorrow and putting the clubs down, so new streak starts in about 10 days!
    • Day 44, June 17.  Today was some preliminary stretching, exploring what I'll want to set up as a regular routine (both while on vacation without clubs and when I'm back) (aside: this is part of an upcoming goal to stretch daily in a meaningful way, but I don't plan to count it as practice on days that I can meaningfully practice with a club)
    • Having a rough week. Went to the Dr. because I was really weak and could hardly swing my driver.  I take Propranolol 20 mg tablets twice a day. Seems like the Propranolol was driving my pulse down (low 50's).  So we cut the dosage in half and I started taking my blood pressure. It was a little high but pulse came up.   Then yesterday I raised it to 15 mg tab by taking it 3 times a day. Blood pressure 127 / 77 Pulse 75.  Heading out tomorrow morning for 18 holes.    I have my driver set at 10.5* but seem to have my swing speed to low and I can't get the lift on the ball I need.  I have not played this week in hopes I will have the strength to raise my swing speed. I may have to raise my loft to 12* . (I will take my driver wrench) tomorrow. (This Parkinson's is a pain in the butt.)  Will give you a report when I get back.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • You still got to lift your arms. You basically just roll your wrist over in the 1st half of the backswing.
