My bag had been in use 3 years by a buddy of mine before I got it two years ago. So it's 5 years old and falling apart, and I have just enough of an ego that I'd like a nice bag now that I'm playing nicely.

I almost always walk a course, using a push cart. I occasionally take a riding cart, such as when a course requires it. However, when I go to the practice facilities, I will carry my bag. As such, I want a bag that can be used for either.

I've been considering the following bags, and I'd like to know if anyone wants to share any experience they have with that bag. Also, if you'd like to suggest a bag to me, I'd like to hear it. I need at least one big pocket, two medium sized ones, two small ones, and one for my valuables (phone - off, but carried - wallet, etc).

I've been looking at:
  1. Titleist SH85
  2. Ogio Edge
  3. Mizuno GTX
  4. Sun Mountain MPB

At the moment, the bags are listed in the order in which I like them. The Mizuno has the nice advantage that it'll match 10/14 of my clubs, and that seeing that is what showed me that there are hybrid bags. I won't be carrying any Titleist stuff at all, but I don't carry any Maxfli now, so I don't really care which label my bag is, as long as it's a good bag.

I keep hearing good things about Ping bags, but they don't seem to have any hybrids listed on their site. If they have 'em, please let me know, so I can consider it too.

As always, many thanks for help!

Shindig,

Great idea - new irons, new bag. I am sorry that I can't offer any specific comments on the bags you listed. I love my Titleist stand bag (the X81 Sunday Stand Bag) and know a lot of people who use them, but I've never seen the one you're considering.

I have an older Callaway hybrid bag (I think it was called the Hybrid 45, but I'm not sure) that is quite nice. It's a whole lot like the Ogio Edge, but without the ball silo thing. It's heavier than my Titleist, but I really like a lot of the features: the zipperless pocket, the lift handle, and, especially, the "torq strap" that really does a great job of keeping the bag from twisting and sliding in the cart (like seemingly all the stand bags, hybrid and otherwise, I've ever had seem to do).

I think that Mizuno bag is very cool and coveted it before I decided to buy the smaller and lighter Titleist. That thing looks fantastic.

As with your new clubs, you really can't make a bad decision. Congrats.

How about the Mizuno Twister ? I'm not sure if you had a reason for not listing this bag as you know about the GTX already. The base is designed to fit on pull carts (not sure about push carts). I use to have one and it sat on my pull cart without needing to be sat on its side. The pockets are detachable also and the bag is pretty light for carrying without the pockets. I got the AeroLite because I play high school golf and I always carry my bag and walk the courses now. The link is to the new one, but the older version was pretty nice too. Good luck looking and good luck with the MP-57s.

And you might consider giving those Ping bags a good look. The Hoofer really is nice and rides in a cart fairly well for a carry bag. It might not have as much storage space as the others you're thinking about, but their popularity is justified.

Thanks. I will have to take a closer look at the ones you guys listed.

The '08 Callaway Warbird is the perfect hybrid bag. Has everything you're looking for, excellent club organization, and it is easy to carry. It is built a little on the bigger side, and has many adaptations to ride better. Do not get it if you walk a lot, and need a light bag.
