Golf Ball Purchase

I recently started playing golf about 6 months ago and I am already shooting high eighties consistently, at about a 15 handicap. I have been playing Titleist Pro V1's that I purchased at a store that sells used golf balls, and I purchased the high quality Pro V1's for about $18 a dozen. You can't go wrong with this price, but these balls were probably sitting on the bottom of a lake for a few weeks so that is probably why they are so cheap. For the most part the balls were clean with a few minor scuff marks, but I am very impressed with the performance of the Pro V1's off the tee and especially short game shots. The only problem is, I cannot afford to purchase new Pro V1's at nearly $50 a dozen so I can either continue to purchase used Pro V1's, or try a new ball like the Ben Hogan Tour Deep. I personally have also played the old Maxfli Noodles and I do not enjoy them as much as my Pro V1's which I am seeing a 5-10 yard gain on tee shots and softer feel around the greens. What would you recommend, purchasing a newer cheaper ball such as the Hogans, or purchase the used Pro V1's? Thanks

EDIT: Thanks for the quick replys. I am going to try out a few sleeves of NXT's, Callaway's and also purchase more of these Pro V1's when I get a chance, and then decide which ball is for me.

If you like the Titleist feel, try the NXT Tour as it has a lot of the same properties. I actually have a 12 pack of NIKE Juice that I am excited to play. I also shoot in the 80's...but have a normal swing speed (Mid to High 80's) and am trying to find a ball that matches my swing and will give me the most distance and spin for my game.

Others that I have had recommended in the past are Callaway Hot, Srixon, etc.

The Noodle and Pro-V1 are completely different golf balls....

Have you tried the NXT Tours? They are a mutli-layer ball but don't have the same expensive outer shell like the Pro-V1. Give them a try, you may lose some spin and touch around the green though.

if you dont have a problem paying for these used Pro V1's and they are working good for you, why switch?

The easiest way to determine that is buy a sleeve of new Pro V1's (about $12) and try them out. If they work better, you'll have to determine if they work better enough to justify spending the money. I'm a bad enough golfer that I don't need any help from a water-logged or otherwise potentially damaged ball.

Callaway HX Hot Bites $29.99 for a pack.

Awesome ball. Only drawback is that the urethane covers get chewed up a little easy.

If you like the PRO V1's, play the Ben Hogan Tour Deep. They are not a newer ball, in fact they might be discontinued (I don't remember). They will play just as good if not better than the Pro V1 as for distance and spin. The Hogan Tour Deep is pretty much the same ball as Callaway's HX Tour.

the callaway HX hots are GREAT!!!!

I like the HX Hots, but they're not workable around the green - the ball surface is surlyn (i think), so it's not sticky at all, so it's hard to put a spin on it. Maybe if you doped up your wedge with some pine sap

Thanks for all the replys. I have decided to purchase a sleeve of the Callaway HX Hot Bite's and try them out, along with possibly ordering the Ben Hogan Tour Deep. I will try both out and choose from there, along with my Pro V1's
