I just watched a video on golf balls, and it pretty much confirmed my beliefs. I have heard it said by fellow golfers playing off mid to high handicaps that golf balls don't make any difference, and it's just in your head, however I don't believe this. For example, I am pushing 70 now, I am not a big man, and am far from a big hitter. I presently play off of 18, and my mane concern is getting the ball to travel in a straight line. My requirements are totally different to a single handicapper who can control the ball and hit it a lot further than me. Ball constructions are quite different and designed to do different things, so surely a one size fits all approach must be wrong. After using Srixon Soft Feel, and Srixon Distance for many years I just started using Titeist Velocity. I don't know what my swing speed actually is, but it would appear they must suit it because I am getting another 10% from my shots, and what's more they don't stray anymore than the Srixons. I just wanted to know everyone's opinion on this!

Golf balls are not all the same, no. You're right about that. Finding a good golf ball for your game is important to play your best.

If you are the golfer who wants to go out on the weekend. Enjoy a few beers with some friends, hacking it around the course. Don't have intention of practicing to get better. Then go buy the cheapest golf balls. Don't waste money when you are not putting in the effort.

The opposite is true. If you plan on getting trying to get better, playing more, practicing more, or if you are a halfway decent to very good golfer who is in the wrong golf ball. Getting into the right golf ball for your game is beneficial. You are putting in time, money, effort into your game. Why devalue that effort or hurt your game by playing a crappy golf ball.
