Has anyone ever tried this driver?
At golf town right now, they have a deal on them for $188.
Just wanted to know what you think of it?

Ive tried it, its a good driver, easy to hit, Try it out first and see if you like it.

It seems like a pretty good price... You see for me i hit irons very straight but driver=slice. Im due to take some more lessons, what would happen if i bought this draw driver then i got an anti slice swing :) haha, would the driver cause me then to hook it?

Well if you got an anti-slice swing, would mean you hit it straight, if you started to hook it on purpose, then It would not be good. Try the Neutral R7 and the Draw and see which one you like. I'm sure with the draw if you still do hit a slice you may be able to hit a little straighter.

Btw: where in Canada are you from?

Because i bought the nickent 3dx square and initially really like it now not so much. Considering im only fifteen, im not sure i want to spend $400 on the r7 yet. THats why i thought the draw seemed like a good price.

I have the draw and its a fine club, a lot of people think differently but i beg to differ. I have a natural fade on all my shots and this is one of the straightest clubs in my bag. although i bought it for 250.00$ with a gift card to dicks sporting goods(ty uncle dan) but it has gone down drastically. also when i hit it straight, it has a nice little draw to add some yards

But if your against it that with lessons it will turn into a hook buy the reg r7 and weight it to draw then when u fix ur slice weight it to normal

From Calgary, what about you?

Manitoba.

You can always try out other drivers. Im a year older, I definatly suggest the Nike Sasquatch. Try some things out, maybe you can get a good deal off ebay. I know thats where I'm gonna buy my irons.

So it would become a hook if i got my swing better?

I have the r5 draw, and its a great driver. I too was battling a slice, and have only hit about 2 slices in 100 swings. There have been a few times I have drastically hooked it, but it was just a bad swing. I tried the neutral before i got the draw and it didnt help me out much. If you go to 3balls.com they have the r7 draw for 150 brand new, which is where i got my r5 for 112 brand new. Good luck!

Golfsmith has it for $150, so you might better get it there. I own one of those. I have to say its a very nice driver to work with, and it does help fix those slices. It looks a little bit awkward at first but its a very aesthetic driver. I think The Sand Trap has a review on it and everything.

Cheers...

Have a look for the R7 460 - this is available at some retailers still, for about $190 IIRC.

Can't remember where I saw it, but the sites I normally frequent are the usual suspects - rockbottomgolf, tgw, discountgolf... have a look about and you'l find it. Also, you could try ebay.

This is similar to the R7 draw being a 460cc head, but the R7 460 has the advantage of weight settings; essentially neutral or draw. For the time being, set it to draw (same as the R7 draw) and when you fix the slice, change the weights to neutral.

IMHO, if you his a slice now, the R7 draw may give you a straighter shot. Cure your slice and you'll have a nice draw. Not saying a hook, more a draw which will be nice.

I hate having a closed-faced draw driver. My advice is to get a tour model (most of them are square to open-faced) with neutral bias and learn to swing correctly to make it go straight. Learn from other's mistakes.

Tmoult I'm not saying it will become a hook, all I'm saying is if your worried that it might(mine have never hooked) then buy the regular one. But I am a pretty solid player like you i shoot in the mid 80's and I have a pretty nice swing to. In fact the only reason i shoot in the 80's is because of my putting

If $$ is an issue, I would go for the good deal. You won't be disappointed and then in a year or two when you get the itch for new equipment again, you can buy one of this years models for short $$...I paid $199 for my R7 Draw last year...it's the first driver I have the utmost confidence the ball will land in play.

It would only become a hook if you put a bad swing on it. A good swing will give you a bit of a draw, and it will straighten out a fade, and try to straighten out a slice.

I have a G10 draw on the way, custom fitted (and 44.5" instead of 45.75") and it is not hooky at all with a good swing.

    • Yea the first season was great. I never played the second game so I am basically blind to most of the story (with some exceptions). I have to figure out how to watch it though since I don’t have cable anymore.
    • Causation does not equal correlation. Just because he "got jacked" doesn't mean that was what caused him not to win a major from 2015-2024.  There are so many reasons other than "he was too jacked to make good swings under pressure" as to why he didn't win from 2015-2024. First, winning a major is HARD. It requires a lot of luck and things to go your way over the course of 72 holes. Second, there were so many good players that came along and won majors during that time period. The longer time goes on the harder and harder it becomes to win because the skill level of professional golfers as a whole increases over time. Third, sometimes you straight up get beat, like in 2022 Rory lost to Cam Smith who shot an 8 under 64 in the final round. Rory shot a bogey free 70 and hit every single GIR.  There were plenty of other things besides "he got too jacked to make good swings under pressure" as to why he didn't win from 2015-2024.  In fact, since the 2015-2016 season, Rory has been inside the top 10 in Strokes Gained Tee to Green EVERY SINGLE SEASON. Think about that for a second. 9 straight seasons he was in the top 10 of a key statistical area measuring full swings and you're trying to argue that he was too jacked to make good swings under pressure while offering no facts or stats that support your claim in any way?? C'mon man that's a horrible take.
    • Caught up on the last two. The flow is going great. I enjoyed episode 4 with the hated drills. Good talk. I have not been interested in podcasts in quite some time until this one.

    • There is 100%, incontrovertible, undisputed evidence and proof that he wasn’t winning majors from 2015 - 2024. Even though I concede that my take is laughable, I don’t think it’s laughable to say that Rory’s major drought during that period is one of the most extreme droughts in modern golf history.  Extreme meaning, with his innate and physical talent (AND his major record pre-2015), he could’ve should’ve won multiple majors during that period. If you agree with that, then the question is why?  What was preventing him from closing the deal on majors?
