that explains why the players has a $9,000,000 purse

Well, the event at TPC Scottsdale doesn't have a $9million purse last I checked. The Players has a huge purse for other reasons.

The TPC courses are mostly operated by the PGA Tour, and a ton of events are there - aiding in their marketability.
