When I went thru my finger pain it was late in the season...
TMG.... too much golf had set in.
I did discover my grips were hard from a years use...
I also discovered  I was  re-positioning my grip on the club just before my swing.
I would grip the club with my left hand and then re-position my grip to a stronger position.
Because my hand was already on the club I think this eventually was the problem. (friction)
BTW I still have some pain, and still re-position my grip during my shot...
You can tell my hands move by the wear pattern on my grips... very evident!

I rarely use gloves but they too show a definite re-grip pattern.

If you are considering a new glove... Try BIONIC Gloves.
They seem to have extra padding in just the right places.
So much "placed padding" I am surprised they are legal...

As a left handed golfer who's played 100+ rounds each year for 23+ years, the first knuckle of my ring finger(left hand) has taken a beating over the years using an interlocking grip.  I am convinced this is entirely due to 100's of thousands of ground impacts and taking divots with the irons coupled with the interlocking grip.... As a lefty,  I never play golf wearing my wedding band because I feel it interferes with an interlocking grip.   I've had to have my wedding band re-sized so I can take it off over my calcified knuckle that has slowly grown over the decades .....so I can play golf without it!!

As a righty........a wedding band on the left hand shouldn't make a bit of difference in the golf swing.  Knuckle issues on the left hand are either due to serious issues with the grip and or golf swing........or most likely, this is an arthritic condition that has nothing to do with golf.   For righties.....the left hand fingers shouldn't take a beating.

Overgripping could be a problem. I have numbness in my 4th and 5th fingers on both hands due to musical instrument and work related RSIs. I can't really feel the club that well with the fingers, and that may be why I grip tighter. It's not at address, we checked that today. It's something I do during the backswing. I tend to tighten it just as I'm starting my downswing. I don't know what to do about that.

I have a video of my swing taken today I'll try to get up on Youtube. I'm hitting a six iron.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
