As a beginner, I'm playing with an old set of clubs. The putter is especially old - around 60 years old I'm guessing so I thought I'd start by replacing it.
My friend said I should get a bar style putter due to the way I was putting with his (had some great putts). Any suggestions for a reasonably priced (around $50) new or used putter?

In my Warbird Hot:

Get a ping karsten series putter. They have several different styles to chose from. For $90 I think they are one of the best deals in golf equipment, at the momment. A little more than you wanted to spend, but a perfect putter for a beginner or even a more expereinced player.

I agree. Karsten Series putter would be a great putter for you as a beginner and you could grow into it and not need another putter for a long time. (maybe forever)

It is an Otey Crisman 36H. Check out this thread .
I doubt it is worth enough for me to consider selling. It was my dad's and my wife wants to mount it on the wall.

I got mine from a Golfsmith outlet store. I opted to get a pingman blackout grip put on instead of the winn grip that comes with it, though. Its not a bad grip, I just prefer the pingman because it was the type of grip I used on my previous putter. As Dent said, you could probably get one used on ebay for 20 or 30 bucks less. The ping website is an option as well.

Putters are a very personal selection. I can putt with a lot of different things but I prefer mallet style putters with some sort of sight lines. I putted for several years with a blade and did very well. It's all trial and error and what is pleasing to your eyes when you set it behind the ball. There are lie angles to consider but if it feels good, putt with it.

Here's my take on putters for what its worth. They definitely don't have the be the latest and greatest. Most people go through lots of putters and when one isn't working they will sell it off cheap. It's just what you like and feels good. I have a 229 dollar NC, and a I have a 20 dollar Wilson that is 20 years old and it's still awesome. . Search and ye shall find. Best of luck on your search

      I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.

      Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

      Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
