Richard Finch just won The Irish Open in spectacular fashion!

On the 18th, he has a 3 shot lead. Hit's his par-5 lay-up into the hazard but above ground. The hazard being the River Maigue. He elects to go for the green - smashes the ball over the river while falling right in, boots and all.

Amazingly - he never takes his eye off the ball, and it lands on the left edge of the massive green. The crowd acknowledge the bravery and talent displayed and he receives a great applause. 3 putts later he's the Irish Open Champion.

Move over Woody Austin.

That guy went on to win it as well. I'm sure he's not too bothered about a bit of fresh Irish water as he won the comp and probably has done enough to secure his card for next year.

That was a tough shot and I think he had to give up his balance to be assured of making good contact. I don't think he could have released the club head through the ball on that steep slope and avoided falling.

brilliant - more of the same next year! What a great closing 3 holes! the 16th modelled on Augusta's 12th, the 17th a tight long par 4 and the 18th beside and over a river - great design.
