And what'd I find?

Everything went left.

Why? Because the frickin' lie is 60° (and with a 45.5" shaft to boot).

907D2 is 57°.
FT-5 is 56°.
FT-I Tour is 57°.
HiBore XLS Tour is 57°.
MP-600 is 58°.
All of the above (I believe) also have 45" shafts.

What's a lie that's too upright do? Make everything go left.

I hit it really well, but everything went left. The two times I "laid the face open" it went straight at least.

I'm not short. 60° is way, way too upright. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if most of their PGA Tour staff wasn't playing with the lie set at something 4-5° below 60°.

Thats really surprising that the lie be that high. For a TP club its is usually made for people who like the shape the ball and of what you described you could not cut the ball if you life the depended on it. Im surprised that TM set it up with such a high draw bias. Also I've been trying to find that club at my local golf store and i cant find one. In any of the pictures that i have seen they look exactlythe same and cant find the TP symbol anywhere on the club, where is it differentiated from the normal Tour Burner.

I was able to cut the ball, but I had to lay the face open to counter the fact that, due to the loft of the club and the lie angle, it was pointing dead left. I don't like feeling like I'm having to compensate for the club, so it's disappointing that this thing goes left so much.

Other than that, it's a very nice club so far. Good feel. Shaft is a bit light (they sent the 65 instead of the 75).

It's on the crown. That's where the "TP" is. It's the alignment aid.

How are you finding the shape of the Tour Burner so far?

From what I've seen it looks to be quite oddly shaped. Triangular even, D1 esque.

It's fine, but yeah, I'd played the 907D1 before. It's not quite as triangular as the 907D1, I think.

I also demo'd the Tour Burner tonight and wow...that club was ok but man that closed face really threw me off. I was also pull hooking it, I did manage to crack a few out there straight and it did indeed go well, but it was quite a difference for a "non-draw bias" club.

I don't understand the weight in shaft set up,say 45 ,65 and 75,how do you know which weight suits you and how should it affect your shot,i have a swing speed of 107 but when i get warmed up that probably creeps up a bit,the shaft in my club weights only 45,its a stiff shaft.Any knowledge would be appreciated.

I played the TP, which doesn't have a closed face. It's just too upright, which results in shots to the left.

Let's stay on topic - and that isn't.

Another shot characteristic of a driver with an upright lie is a lower/boring trajectory due to the higher center of gravity. I remember back in the day when the Ping TISI drivers came out (they had the plastic hosel with several different setup options, open/closed upright/flat), I heard that a lot of college/mini-tour players used this driver with a 1* closed/4* upright setup (I think they had the hosel code RXD, lie angle was 60*) to lower the trajectory and put more of an over spin on the ball.

I currently play the Tour Burner TP (1* open) and I normally draw the ball and haven't noticed any extra right to left movement compared to my old Cobra 440sz.

What shaft were you using?

I don't think that has anything to do with it. A driver with a higher CG will have a lower ball flight, but I don't think changing the lie angle really affects the CG very much at all.

... to lower the trajectory and put more of an over spin on the ball.

A golf ball, even moderately well struck, will NEVER have "over spin" on it.

What shaft were you using?

The Mitsubishi 65. I think I said that already, no? I wanted the 75, but they sent the 65. The shaft isn't making the ball go left.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
