I just saw where the price on the 907's has dropped $100, does this mean they are planning to release a new driver soon? I hadn't heard anything.

Ive heard much of the same. A new titliest driver that will be available sometime this summer or fall because the D2 and D1 have missed the mark. Justifiably so. The D2 is one of the most useless peices of major brand equipment ive tried since ive been playing. Still better than some drivers, but awful for a company like titliest. Many of their tour staff dont even use them and play 907's. I didnt really like the 907 either, but I might give it another chance since the prices seem to be coming down so low. With the right shaft, the 907 seems like a very good driver with some players.

Seems like you like Acushnet products. Have you tried the new Callaway or Taylor Made players driver models. Always get higher ratings than Titleist in the driver arena. Titleist had a relatively small, but very loyal following with their very traditional driver look, shape and sound, but lost a lot of fans with the 905 series on.

talking to me? I guess i do use alot of aushnet products, my pro is a titilest staffer and I get most of my equipment used from him or at a pretty decent discount. My 3-wood and irons are his old set of gamers refitted for me.

But generally ive never liked titliests drivers, but i use an old one at the momment. I used to use a 5 year old TM 580 until the face cracked, and i own an r7 425 tp that im not comfortable enough with to play with, right now. I hit an r7 460 of a friend and it seemed like a good feeling club. Just the closed face through me off. Ive never jived at all with callaways equipment except for their x forged line of wedges and irons.

Yes, its called the 909. Just do a search for Titleist 909 and you'll find some threads where this has been discussed.

They've missed the mark... for you, and certainly for some people. For others, they're quite nice. I've hit other drivers and you won't get the 907D2 out of my hands.

So let's avoid being petty, silly, or being overly general. Many of their tour staff dont even use them and play 907's.[/quote] Huh? What do you think the D1 and D2 are? They're 907s. And almost all of their Tour staff play either the 907D2 or the 905R - a 460cc head that's quite similar to the D2.
I didnt really like the 907 either, but I might give it another chance since the prices seem to be coming down so low. With the right shaft, the 907 seems like a very good driver with some players.

Uhm... Yeah, I'm still not sure you even realize that the D1 and the D2 ARE the 907s.

Anyway, Titleist releases clubs in the spring and the fall. They've already released their spring clubs (duh), so you do the math as far as drivers, fairway woods, and/or hybrids goes.

A little birdy told me they will be releasing 3 drivers this year. Perhaps it's 3 versions of the 909.. that I don't know.

Knowing the way titleist works, they won't be releasing a driver this year since they don't even have a new one in the tour player's hands yet and that's always their first step.

The 907D4 is not going retail...it didn't go over too well on tour.

The word out is the 909 will be the next driver, but it isn't even on the Tour approved club list, so it will be awhile. I would put the over/under on mid 2009. Unless, they get it on tour in the next few weeks and it is a smash hit.

As for the comments on the 905's not being good...many many Titleist purists love the 905R and so do quite a few tour players. I have the D2 now, but also still have a 983K and 983E that are nearly as good or better in some instances. I've found most Titleist haters are typically players that aren't suited for the Titleist clubs since they are geared toward the 15 or less handicaps. For those over 15, check out Cobra's new speed drivers. Very solid and built for the recreational player.

Driver: 9.5 905R 757 Speeder X stiff
3 Wood: 13.0 Sonartec GS Tour Red Ice 70X
Hybrid: 17.0 Sonartec MD Stiff UST IROD
Irons: 690cb 4-PW w/Rifle 6.0
Wedges: Cleveland 900 Series Gunmetal 50, 54, 60Putter: Scotty Cameron Studio Newport 370g head

There's a lot of time between now and the end of August. And they certainly - obviously - do a heckuva lot of testing before players are actually using it on the PGA Tour.

I don't think that's quite the case with DFBike...

The 907s failed at one thing: offering a very low spin version. The 907D1 and D2 both have pretty similar launch conditions - and they're both almost the same as the 905R. A few guys have had to go with lower-spinning shafts or whatever to "make them work" rather than just use the same shaft they've always used and still keep the spin off. Those that have kept the 905R have done so primarily for one of two reasons: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and the shape (it's not as rounded as 907D2). Regarding any upcoming releases, I have to watch what I say, but please feel free to read the tea leaves.

After some research on Golf WRX and other sites, here is what I found:

-Titleist wasn't pleased at all with the 907D1 and D2 because of the fact that they lost many of their loyal followers both on and off tour when they strayed from the traditional titleist pear shape and low spinning head. They fired some/all of the R&D; and design team and brought in many other designers from other companies in an attempt to "return to their roots".

-The 909 is supposed to be offered in three versions. One will offer some type of composite crown, one will be a 460cc titanium driver, and one will be a 425cc titanium driver.

-The intended date is supposed to be sometime in the fall, with prototypes hitting the tour sometime around the U.S. Open.

I saw the D2 price drop and went and tried it out this weekend. I personally fell in love with it but am trying to resist buying because I am hitting the 975 that i just bought (for all of $10) so well. (this is after struggling heavily with last years sumo 2).

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
