I’d like to know how many rounds people get through before wearing holes in their glove. I’ve always battled the tight grip (re-grip) problem, but seem to have improved to the point where a better quality glove lasts 15 - 20 or more rounds, before the palm and/or the interlaced finger contact point start to wear through. I use to use cheap gloves that seem to wear through after several rounds (sometimes less), but through better grip control and a higher quality glove have improved. The glove still does eventually wear a hole in those spots and I know I still grip a bit too firmly. Just wondering what might be considered normal or acceptable. I suppose there are those who never wear out their gloves too. I’m also thinking of increasing the grip size slightly on the next change out (currently use .600 on .600 butt size and may try .580). Not sure if that might help ease the grip pressure. Any comments are appreciated!

My gloves usually last about 15-20 rounds. Until they get really discoloured and wrinkled, its really not about holes until I get into the 25+ Round range.

I used to have the same problem. I would grip the club too hard and wear out the gloves fast. I found that one problem was that the cheaper gloves just don't last as long doing this. I was able to figure out how to swing and not grip too hard first, then I went to a better glove. My first thought was that they would not last as long since they seemed to be a little thinner, but I have found out that the better quality holds up better.

I play where it gets very warm and my hands sweat a lot. In my experience once the glove starts retaining water it goes downhill fast. I started using three gloves and rotating them each hole. That way each has a chance to dry out for a couple of holes. I will usually get three at the start of the season when I change my grips and they will last me for the year. I will say I probably play about 30-40 rounds a year so if you play more it might not work for you. I guess that averages out to about 10-13 rounds per glove but I can say they stay fresh. I have been doing this for a number of years and I have never put a hole in one. I use the older ones on the range so I don't wear out the newer ones.

I am not a grip expert by any means but if you want to increase your grip size, I don't think going from a .600 core to a .580 will work. I think that is just the core size of the grip, but both are standard size once installed. You have to get a grip that is oversized or put extra tape on the shaft to get the grip bigger. Someone please correct me if this is incorrect.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Goblue, Good idea on rotating gloves. It's very hot where I play and that would help. In the past I've just been to lazy to do it. On your grip response, the difference from .600 ID to .580 ID is the equivalent of an extra wrap of tape or maybe slight less (according to GolfPride's website). The smaller ID grip expands a little when placed on a .600 shaft. That's what Titleist does with Vokeys to get a little larger grip size in their stock wedges.

I'd say my gloves last about three weeks, with me playing 6 days per week, I find it to be pretty good. Plus, I generally practice an hour a day maybe 5 times per week as well. Mine usually rips in the thumb, and palm area.

Thanks for correcting me. I wasn't sure if I was right or not.

There is definite difference between quality gloves and cheap gloves. A pair of cheap gloves (<$10) might get a hole in the thumb or palm after about 5-10 trips to the range. I am using a mid-level FootJoy (~$11) now and it has lasted >20 but is getting worn a bit.

I use the Titliest glove. I can only get about 10 rounds out of one of those gloves until i wear a hole near the bottom - where the palm is. I think it is revealing some kind of issue with my grip...but im just trying to conveniently ignore it..Ive gotten much better durability out of the Nike's glove and Footjoy's gloves.

I keep four gloves in my bag and rotate them frequently. Keeping them from getting soaked with sweat helps. I too rotate gloves if needed, but I usually play nine with one glove and then swap to another for the back nine. If it is hot and I'm sweating a lot I'll use three.

I used a Wilson glove that was a piece of junk, after just a couple of uses it was discolored, after two weeks it was completely brown and black - the natural leather made my hand sweat, which made the leather gross - Putting on a dry leather glove that had dried full of sweat was gross, it was like a dry chamois cloth - know what I mean?

I switched to a FootJoy WeatherSof glove, which is synthetic, and after a week of use and several full rounds it looks almost brand new, no discoloration, no manky stiffness. I have a feeling it will last a long time.

I have found that if you spend the money for a high dollar glove it is worth it. Tough to shell out but I have found that they last longer. I have bought one glove so far this year and I average about 2 rounds a week.

I usually go through a glove about every month or so. It depends on what kind of glove it is though. I usually go for the Footjoy Sciflex which seems to last a while, and isn't bulky while playing with it. Recently my friend gave me some kind of FootJoy glove that looked like a sciflex, but was actually something different and it lasted me a really long time although I'm just starting to rip holes in it.

Mine seem to last me pretty much indefinitely. I usually have 3 or 4 in my bag that I swap while playing and once I get home I take them out and sit them on top of my clubs to air out/dry. Once they sort of start to get a bit loose/stretched I put them in my bag of practice balls where they live until I chuck them out or give them to my son.

I only ever buy dark coloured gloves, white ones end up becoming discoloured and get nasty looking after a few months or so.

One thing I have found that makes them last longer is to keep my grips clean, my grips get a good scrub with soapy water and a rinse under hot water every couple of weeks or so.
