I was looking at rangefinders and saw some cheap Bushnell scope for $20. Would that be able to tell me how far I hit my drive? For example, I hit my drive and see my ball ___ yds down the fairway...If I scope in on it, could it tell me how far it is away?
I have a ROUGH estimate on how far (230-250 [roll]), but not really sure.
Thanks.

Those things aren't usually extremely accurate. They need a pretty reflective target to get a reading as well. Usually the cheaper the more prone to not getting the reading or an accurate one. It would prob give you a decent rough idea but within a couple of inches? No.

If I am correct I think that you are talking about a scope that only measures distance to the hole, and uses the flag to make the measurements, so it would not be able to give you that information. I have one, and it does not do the job it is made for well, so I never use it.

Good way to really measure your tee distance is to identify where the ball stops relative to some big landmark (tree, house, whatever) and then afterward use Google Earth to measure the distance. Don't forgot to notice where the tee box is, as well.

^yep...thats the best way Ive found to do it. Google earth also helps in course management as long as they have high res images of your courses. Green depth, carry distances, layup distances... all sorts of good info to be had.
