I got cheap shoes by checking the local shops for their "clearance" section. they typically try to unload there older merchandise for cheap.

For walking I enjoy the golf shoes that actually look like running shoes with cleats on the bottom. If you decide to get leather shoes make sure you get the right size and try to break them in a little before walking 18 in them. You can get the biggest blisters of your life from stiff golf shoes.

In my freestyle:

I generally only play 9 per trip. I live in south Georgia, it's too hot here to walk eighteen.

I just play in running shoes because I walk everything and they are very comfortable and I do not see how cleats will help unless the ground is wet and slick. But that web site does look tempting.

I wear American Eagle shoes religiously. They aren't designed for 2 extra miles of walking everyday on top of a normal days walking. They're more designed for looks

So I figure if I am going to buy a pair of shoes for golf, might as well buy golf shoes :P

If you have something like Big 5 Sports go and see what they have on sale. A friend of mine bought some basic Footjoy shoes for $40 and another bought some nice looking Alien shoes for $25. They both seem good enough. I had to spend $60 for Nikes because I have size 13 feet - and I already ditched the Nikes for some Footjoy Reelfits from TGW because the Nikes were very much not waterproof.

The modern golf shoe (without metal spikes) are at least as comfortable as running shoes. The 'spikes' (not cleats...cleats on football/baseball/soccer shoes) work well in all conditions and important in getting good lower body stability. If you swing and transfer weight properly...a lot of torque is happening and you don't want to sway from slippage.

If looking for sub $50 shoes...look for clearance shoes. Such as the Nike SP5s which are selling for below $40 when they originally sold for $100. Such a great deal (think...a set of replacement spikes sell for $15)....I have two all black spare pairs sitting in my closet after paying $30 at an extra special sale.

Any suggestions? Cheap to me is <$50.

Adidas Paragon (they sell for about $35 at Golfsmith). Wonderful shoes. I bought a pair once being very reluctant due to the price, and I have had my third pair already....

Go onto Golflocker.com and pick out the Greenjoys. You can get them for about $33 bucks right now. Very comfy.

Great shoes and that price is really sweet.

I have owned a few pairs of Greenjoys and love 'em.

Looking at the Golflocker website, they have 4 different styles and colors of GreenJoys. All will be comfortable as heck.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
