suggestions for the best way to ship irons? i've been looking to sell a set of irons and this would be my first time, so i was wondering if anyone had any tips or methods they found most successful (i.e. carriers, type of box, packaging methods, etc.). any advice would be great. thanks in advance.

btw, in case anyone was wondering, they're mizuno mx25 (4-GW) w/ DG S300. i'll probably post in the marketplace once i figure out the best way to ship.

Try buying a set and re-use the packing material?

Hell, I don't know if UPS or FedEx is going to have 48" long 4"x4" or 6"x6" boxes or all of those bubble wrap bags to cover the heads.
Steal the rubber bands for the bags from work.

Long oblong box, obviously.

Put half the irons face up, half of them face down.

Stick wads of newspaper, or bubble wrap in between or wrapping each clubhead.

Newspaper on bottom, newspaper on top.

The UPS store near my house has a box designed specifically for this. They say they also use them from time to time on oversize posters.

Go to your local golf shop/pro shop and ask them for a box. They will probably have a whole room of empty boxes and will gladly give them up.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

A cheap Doskocil rifle case from the local Wal-Mart or Academy will do nicely. They're padded, hard cased, and about what you'd spend on packing material anyhow. Just wrap the clubheads in newspaper to keep them from clanking, and tape the snot out of the box so it won't come open.

When I was a kid, a man in my Scout troop built custom clubs, and shipped them all over the world this way.

+1. they are usually happy to give these boxes away. i shipped irons to hawaii via usps and it cost me $27. i was so pissed. i forgot to specify on ebay that fixed shipping for lower 48 states only. oh well. lesson learned.

If I recall correctly....if you allow the "UPS Store" to pack and ship your package...they will provide free insurance on the shipment. Better check their web site for details.

If your clubs are damaged...it is their fault and they will make you whole.
