You can use the Golf Guru GPS to keep track of your own score and very basic stats, FIRs, GIRs, #of putts. I think they have planned upgrades whereby you could kep scores for multiple players, track club distances and possibly even more stats. All of that is kind of inferred from their web page.

As is already stated, there is no graphics for any courses.

There is GPS support via Intelligolf. Many/some course have gps support.

One can add your own gps support which includes gps coordinates for:
Front, back, center of green
150, 200, 250 markers
3 other objects which can be named

You can walk the course with your GPS or enter the values directly read from some source eg google.map, flash.map. The biggest issue with using google or the like is sometimes the maps are fuzzy or old. I saw one local course that was 5 years out of date.

As you play, you get information on the distance to these objects. Not bad. Not great.

Personally, I thought 3 objects was not enough. But I looked at about 10 local courses in Google earth and found most of the holes had few significant objects or had something like a continuous right or left lateral hazard that was hard to map.

Many of the GPS devices contain more information and track more. With the Golf Guru, one can map the entire green perimeter and up to 30 objects ( to and clear for each). Again, most holes need very few objects. I think if I mapped my own courses/holes, I might add lay-ups or safe driving distance for those really ugly holes ( par 5 dogleg right over water (240 to clear ), lateral water on the right, etc).

I use it in a HP PocketPC and it works great for recording rounds (everyone in your group) and keeping track of games/bets. Every shot can be recorded; the club you used, how many yards you hit, the length of each putt, etc. Then it syncs with your desktop and all of the info ends up in you desktop PC for storage and doing stats. But its not good or made for the before-the-shot stuff that a Golflogix Sonocaddie, SkyCaddie, etc. gives you. It does have some of these features but its not the same. Here is a link to the PocketPC screens

Having tried allsorts of gps stuff imo intelligolf is not good. Try mobile golf scorer if you have a windows mobile device. Courses are free to download and if they don't already have the gps mapped it takes about 20mins to do it yourself using google earth. You get a overhead photo view of each hole and records stats in detail. I use it with my htc diamond and i find it invaluable now.

i did see that program, and it does look great, the only problem is that it costs like $135, which i dont think any kind of mobile software should cost that much, if im reading the "," correctly.

this may be a dumb question, but what constitutes a 'round' of golf? Im asking this in reference to the limit on the Mobile Golf Scorer program (limit 20 rounds on the cheapest version)

I'm a bit of a gadget freak too. I owned the IntelliGolf Eagle version. What I found was that it was disruptive when on the course. I never used it to record the scores of my playing partners (they didn't care, I didn't care about their stats, and it became overly longwinded anyway). The post game analysis was good, but required a bit too much effort for me.

I've recently moved to freecaddie (actually the pro version). It seems to have a better selection of pre-created courses. It's really easy to map a course. Using the pro version you can download a course direct to your mobile, and upload your stats immediately after your round. You can also map a course live on the course. Just log in to the website to analyse your stats. Nothing to lose, no planning required.

Freecaddie (not the pro version) can give you yardages (GPS) and give you an idea how the software works (though no online stuff). It's not perfect, but it is simpler in a way that makes it so much easier to use, as far as I'm concerned. I'm no longer using IntelliGolf freecaddie pro suits me better.

A program I came across a few weeks back is bbgpsgolf. It's free, and IMO really good. I've tried freecaddie (which is pretty good too) but I like this one a lot. It is very easy to plot your course if you don't have it listed.

I found the program mentioned

Here . Any more info/experience with this? I dont see anything about having a score-sheet on it. Also, anyone ever used GolfLogix ? [edit] Just installed it on my Touch Pro 2, and i guess it needs the D-pad on the Touch Pro that it was programed for, cause i get to the start screen where it tells me to register and i cant get past it. (likely requires an OK keypress or something) and from what i can see.. It has an annual fee. (bleck). It looks very good tho..
