I was looking at clones for some reason. I saw Ping G5 clones on sale for only $100. It was a 3-PW, plus a free sand wedge. Now, here's the question. Is there a major difference between clones and the real thing?

I got Nike Slingshot clones before, SV2's... 3-PW, SW, LW, GW...

Didn't hit them more than 50 yds. I'll never buy clones again. Just buy name brand older used.
What I Play:

Driver: Sasquatch SUMOΒ² 9.5ΒΊ Stiff
Hybrid: HiBore 16ΒΊ (3W replacement)
Irons: Staff Ci6 3-PW StiffWedges: Vokey Spin Milled 54.10 60.04Putter: Newport Studio Style 35"Ball: Pro V1xAge: 15

Not sure if there is a difference or not, but I used to have a King Snake 1-iron, which supposedly is a King Cobra knockoff.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

Woods: :mizuno: JPX 850 9.5*, :mizuno: JPX 850 15*, :mizuno: JPX-850 19*, :mizuno: JPX Fli-Hi #4, :mizuno: JPX 800 Pro 5-PW, :mizuno: MP T-4 50-06, 54-09 58-10, :cleveland: Smart Square Blade and :bridgestone: B330-S

they are cheaper for a reason.
you get what you pay for.

In my White Hoofer Vantage Bag:

Driver : R7 Draw
Woods : 3 hybrid
Irons : MP-60Wedge : 54 deg 58 degPutter : RED X 35' (in love)Ball : TP BlackBest Round: 80Closest to Hole-In-One: 0.5''

How do you hit it?

Well, the ball didnt go very high, thats for sure.

It was a great club for windy days though because the wind didnt effect the shot much. It was great for low, running shots.

I actually agree with you, in the irons case, but it isnt always the case. Take Nike for example. You are paying for R&D;, Tigers contract, and commercials. Not just R&D; and clubs.

Why not buy a set of wilson irons, spalding e.t.c,at least you would have a good set of irons instead of wasting money on knock offs.

I wouldn't blame the club for that. Sounds like you have a problem.

They're are plenty of good quality components on the market without compromising QUALITY! Some of these guys are just slaves to coorperate America and choose to help pay the BIG contracts of Pro golfers. I am a believer in components and their quality. See Wishon, SMT, GEEK, Integra, Hireko, Golfsmith, Maltby....need I go on???

Got a friend with x 18 clones. We were hitting at the range attached to the local shop came out and gave him crap for it. Bryan told them to go grab a real x-18 7i. He hit them back to back and put his clone a good 15 yards farther.

Clones can be very nice.

Distance is not everything in a club.

this clone knockoff will make you cry when you see the drives.....
clones can be just as good if not better than a 400.00 driver....
that's not always the case and knockoffs are a huge problem in the golf industry but they kind of did it to themselves as they out-sourced there manufacturing and gave it all away. what did they think was going to happen. money and greed gave way to a hand shake and contract.... on e-bay it is said that at least 1/2 of the clubs being sold are counterfeit ones and you can't tell unless you register them and find out from the factory that it was a copy.... and when everyone says they use cheaper materials, lol.... there using the same stuff the contract calls for from all the big guys... ping is probably the only one not outsourcing its products.... but they are being copied non the less.... I hit my friends ping copies the other day, and let me tell you if your not a pro or scratch golfer you would never know. they flew the same distance and made the same sound as mine, yet there was only one thing that seemed different when side by side. other than that they were the same and the cost for a full set, 187.00.... that's hard to say no to when gas is almost 5.00gal..... lol

clone, longest drive.... 342yds w/skycaddie

No it's not but considering he has an index of 1 I think he can tell the difference between a good club and bad. I know what I am paying him as one of my technicians so he can afford anything on the rack.

Just pointing out that clone does not always equal bad. I've seen him hit driver (a TM) and it made the Nike rep simply stand there with his mouth open and point. Now I got to think he has seem some shots but Bryan has tremendous head speed. Could he play on the tour - nope but he can hit the crap out of a ball with clones.

Andrew

Knockoffs are fine for most people. As long as they are checked by the club builder for loft and lie and then matched to a shaft and grip that taylors to that golfers game you will be hard pressed to not play well with them.

I think you are confusing the matter... components are not necessarily intended to mislead... they are starightforward about what they are... not King Snake, Ting, or otherwise. Components can be very good products as you pointed out, but they are different than clones.

I agree... I can hit my clone Sasquatch just as straight and far as the regular version... probably better since I like the shaft more than the stock offering. This is not to say that all clones are good... you just have to know what you are buying...

My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5Β° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14Β° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18Β°) & 3h(20Β°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52Β°-10Β° & 58Β°-10Β°; Odyssey...

I agree that not all clones are bad, however did you pick up the clone because it looked like Nike? I mean you use the logo in your sig, so I assume that your first impression was because it looked like nike...

Not a knock at all, just curious why people are drawn to different makes and models.
