I hit the ball and pray it goes straight?

I am more aggressive with clubs based on my comfort level with them.

My driver, PW, 9 and 8 I am aggressive with relative to my other clubs cause I feel I get the desired results most often.

My 5 wood or 7 iron (why is my 7 iron cursed I dont know??) I need a WIDE margin for error because I never know when my 5 wood is going to shoot off at about a 30 degree angle to the right of where i was aiming, on a tight fairway this can be DEVISTATING!

I definitely play risky and aggressive. Its hurts me sometimes, but thats what makes golf fun for me. I like to go after every pin and take the risky shot. thats just how I roll...

I play fairly cautious. If I try to take a risk on the first couple of holes, and it doesn't pay off, and I hit a triple bogey (or more) it throws off my entire round.

Posted
I go for every pin.
If I miss the green, at least I'm close to the hole.
I'll usually go for the green on par 5's for the same reason.
I'll hit driver every hole as long as the fairway doesn't run out where I can hit it.
Aggressive as hell.

Attack and accuracy. I don't hit the ball far, so I always use driver off tee. I always go for par 5's in two even if I know I can't reach....that way I can be close to have an easy pitch shot instead of a full wedge or nine iron or something.

I'm a huge gambler, I do whatever it takes to get it to the green and Try every stupid shot possible.

As far as trying to get it close to the pin on a tough position with a water hazard in front, I play real safe and play to the middle. I'm a Cautious Gambler

Ever since I shot a 38 over the back nine, I've played to what the course is giving me. If the shot calls for driver, driver it is. I'm also using more club and being better with my tempo.

At the end, though, it's still about course management.

I have awful course management, I never really "place" my drives, I always seem to attack the pin.

I have stopped doing this. I'll give you an example. There are a couple of holes that run right to left and the greens do the same. The fairways are pretty narrow, Par 4s, about 420 on average. Instead of trying to work the ball, I'll position myself and hit to a particular area. I'll let the slope of the fairways do the rest. Same idea on the greens.

It was the best I've ever felt on a golf course.

I also felt that as well! One day i was playing really safe all day long, and I enjoyed the game soo much more! I don't know why.

My strategy is playing aggresive, and risky. I often take drives which focus more on power than accuracy, and I focus on my short and putting game more so than my approach. My main weapons and assets are my aggressive long drives, paired with my short/putting game. I've been focusing on this style of play since I started playing, because I love good putting strokes coupled with long drives, thats my strategy ...

From 150 or less, aggression is my first name because I can really hit it close from that range one out of two times. I really fancy my chances from close range. My scores are more because of one blowup hole in every nine but I am getting there....sub 10 in three months.

Driver - ultra conservative...i will take 240 yards in the middle every time over that 280+ yard bomb. Since my 905r, I have started making this pretty easy..summer and warm temps help too...will keep it like this for some more time.

Three wood to 5 iron - ultra ultra conservative. Thats till about 165 yards. Many times gets me bad results..to the extent that I think i should have hit 6.
6-iron - kind of aggressive.
7 iron onwards - aggressive.
Putter - I stalk. I do three putt..but I like my chances almost every time.

Simple. How do you play? Attacking? Cautious? Distance? Accuracy?

I believe it should vary depending on the hole you are playing. Where are the hazards? Is the pin in a sucker location? Do you have a good angle where your mishits will leave you with a relatively straight forward next shot? Are you likely to be in trouble if you go for the pin and miss by a little? How is your distance control for the day? Do you have a good idea of how far each of your clubs

really carries distance wise? I think it is important to factor in each of those when choosing if you should be agressive or cautious. Using that type of strategy (think then choose) along with decent mechanics will usually keep you away from big numbers and keep you scoring fairly consistent from one hole to the next and one round to the next. (Worked for my bogey-less 69 on Friday -shown on my score card link below- ).

my first shot of course i want in the fairway but i play differently on every shot and hole, depending on lies and spots im in. i have gotten pretty risky from a 100yds in with my wedge ill try anything, i kinda have no choice but to go for the gusto since i cant use a driver so every shot really counts and any mess-ups has a huge impact on me

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
