Ok, I just started golfing and just spend about a 1000 bucks getting started and am 21 and running out of $$ haha I need some wedges I was looking at Sports Authority and they have a Golden Bear M 86 Wedge Package its a 52 gap wedge 56 sand wedge and a 60 lob wedge its on sale for 60 bucks and I have a 10 dollar off code so 50 bucks for all 3! My question is Is Golden Bear any good or do you think I will be wasting my money and should just save a little and get something better? Thanks in advance for the help!

Golden Bear is a company by Jack Nicklaus, and they specialize for beginning players. They're great clubs for beginners, and players with high handicaps, I think 50 bucks is not such a bad deal for 3 wedges, so it looks pretty worth it ...

The golden bear wedges are owned by Sports Authority I believe, just like Ram and Tommy Armour. Similar to the way Dicks owns Acuity and Walter hagen. They are good for beginners. For a few dollars more, you can grab The Tom Watson Adams wedges where you get all three for between $79-$99. I love those wedges. Hit them and see how they feel is my best suggestion.

i bought that set last night at the local SA for 39.99 they have been there for a while... i have a used 56 cleveland but i dont like the bounce on it...

and not knowing what loft i wanted, I fugured i wouldnt waste too much.

played them today and the 60 was great in the sand and the 52 really helps close the gap between my PW and SW. They look decent in the bag too...

  • 13 years later...

I have a 60 degree Golden Bear LD5.0 lob wedge and was wondering what bounce it has.  I figured posting in this topic rather than opening another made more sense.

Additionally, I was curious how people find the wedges.  I only have the lob wedge and have found it along with my sand wedge, to be specialty clubs only.  Sand, thick rough or flop shots.  My PW is my normal club for most shots from 100 yards in

What's in the bag

  • Taylor Made r5 dual Draw 9.5* (stiff)
  • Cobra Baffler 4H (stiff)
  • Taylor Made RAC OS 6-9,P,S (regular)
  • Golden Bear LD5.0 60* (regular)
  • Aidia Z-009 Putter
  • Inesis Soft 500 golf ball
