It was my goal to do it by the the end of the season. Now my new goal is to keep it there, but in only a year and a half of playing this crazy game 3,4...sometimes 5 times a week, I've made it to the single digit handicap world. It's not officially updated yet, but it's the "current trend." I played in Vegas this week @ Las Vegas National & shot a 77 (I thought was pretty damn awesome for the 1st time on that course & only hitting 6 greens in regulation) & then Bali Hai for an 84 (missing 4 3 footers that lipped out & a roll out on a 20 foot birdie putt that pushed the ball 10 feet down the hill resulting in a terrible 3 putt bogey).

I've been on a hot streak the past 3 weeks puting up some great scores. They're actually unbelievable for me since I'm used to 80's & sometimes a 90 or 91.

What is it when u play muni courses that have tight lies & aren't maintained well...then u go to an awesomely maintained course w/ perfectly manicured greens?
It's a surreal feeling to be a single-digit handicapper..which means I probably won't be winning any tournaments when I courage up to enter them in a flight where I've never played with 0 - 10 ppl..but watch & admire their shot making skills, smart play & fundamentally sound game.
I'm honestly more nervous than excited b/c it means that I shouldn't be making the same mistakes that I tend to make like
Chunking a shot and falling 15 yards short of the green. Skulling a ball, hitting a terrible 3 or 4 iron that goes a good 100 - 150 yards...or anything that adds strokes to the score. I think I won't play for a week just to be able to say I was a sngle-digit man for that long!

Everyone makes errant shots, I wouldn't worry about those. Focus on taking your game to the next level. Playing like a 9.6 handicap, you deserved it. Great job Yoshi

Congrats. Do you know which differentials are used in your handicap? If the least recent of the 20 isn't used, you can go play and, no matter what happens, it won't increase your handicap. And maybe playing so freely will give you a lower differential!

I wish I was still there. I am going to really start keeping track of my handicap just to see what it really is. The one that I have showing is just what I think it is.

Good going for you though.

What's your anti-handicap? Just remember, handicap is a measure of "potential," so you can't get down on yourself if you don't play to it for a few rounds. By the math, you should only play to or better than your index 25% of the time.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

sonic, where do I get my anti? That 25% seems so true..but the past 3 weeks have been nothing but amazing golf.. i've either shot my handi or better.

Congrats DJYoshi!
That's one of my goals as well. I think I've made the right adjustments to get there.... I just need to get there.

Congrats. I got to the 83-87 range last season, and one of my goals for this season was to get to a consistent 80-85 range. My swing has fallen apart on me, but I did manage an 81 last week. I was proud that I was able to go that low, even though my swing wasn't exactly where I want it to be. It told me that I've learned how to score a lot better over the past couple of years.

Well done - I'm aiming for the same goal this year but it isn't quite happening yet. I'm up to 11.1 . I reckon the pressure of trying to get single figures is hurting my game. Hopefully now you've got there you can relax a little and shoot even lower!

The anti-handicap formula is similar to the handicap formula:
1. Determine your worst 10 differentials. (A differential is score minus Course Rating, multiplied by 113 over course Slope Rating.)
2. Add those 10 together.
3. Multiply by .096.
(A less precise method is to add your 10 worst scores and multiply by .096.)

basically your handicap if you used your 10 worst scores.

whats anti handicap?

it basically shows you your consistency but what you'd shoot on a bad day. so even though my handicap's a 9.6...i'm a weak 9 b/c my anti handicap's an 18... so we're about the same handi.

but you can pretty much determine who would win by taking our anti handi's and seeing who's a more consistent shooter and more true to their handi. me most likely being a weaker 9.x than you, you'd probably win in match play. it's a proven method. use the formula below to determine your anti-handicap The anti-handicap formula is similar to the handicap formula: 1. Determine your worst 10 differentials. (A differential is score minus Course Rating, multiplied by 113 over course Slope Rating.) 2. Add those 10 together. 3. Multiply by .096. (A less precise method is to add your 10 worst scores and multiply by .096.) My handicap service already gives me my 10 worst and 10 best differentials.

Mine is an 8.2, what does that mean exactly and why is it so important?

basically means you play to your handicap and how likely you are to veer away from it. 8.2 being so close to your 7..you're not that likely to shoot higher than the allowed strokes you're given via course handicap or something. basically, check this article out.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
