I am getting a new fairway wood soon as my WS has been damaged and wasn't a great club anyway.
I am probably looking at the titleist 906 series, which I have tried and were good, but need to know what you guys think about these fairway wood shafts:
I am looking for a:
-Low launch with mid spin
-I swing around 95-105mph driver, with a quick transition at the top
-A very reliable, stable shaft, that will not baloon and allow me to hit low stingers.
-I am probably going to get a titleist 906.F4 13.5*.

Thanks!

You might want to try the Nike 3 wood. But with all the characteristics you entered, I would definately get fitted and see which shaft works the best.

From the characteristics you've said, I would suggest a Grafalloy Red or similar. Then again, whatever you do try them out first. I would suggest getting fitted for your shaft as its one of the most important components in the club.

I would definitely recommend getting fitted with the shaft. I have been thinking about changing my fairway wood shaft as well. I am probably going to get a Project X though. I really like this shaft in my irons. I am just having trouble finding something I am happy with in my driver.

But enough about me. I would tell the person fitting you what you are looking for and let him give you suggestions. I would make sure to try the different shafts before getting it though.

Based on your preferences there, I'm thinking 906F2 13* with UST Proforce V2 Fairway.

I was thinking of that set up, except I think that I might have difficulty getting the F2 with such little loft out of bad fairway or rough lies and find it difficult to get in the air?

How about these:

- 906F2 13* with NV or VS Proto, or - 906F4 13.5* with V2 or Prolaunch Red It's best if you could demo them first.

Not to threadjack, but I have a somewhat related question. I'm about to get a 906 F4 but the titleist diamana blue stiff wasn't enough shaft - I hit it too high and ballooned it, especially with the 15.5. I was thinking about the 13.5 with a vs-proto 80-s but I think that might be a little too much club. How hard would that be to hit off the deck? Will the vs-proto flatten out the 15.5 enough and increase the distance?

Same here. I had demo-ed 906F4 with Titleist Diamana before I decided on VS Proto. The Titleist Diamana yielded awfully high and ballooned pattern even with 15.5*. Yup, VS Proto lowers the trajectory for sure. But more distance? I can't tell.

I honestly think the loft doesn't need to be changed in order to get lower trajectory. If 13.5* suits your style of play, then go ahead choose it. Otherwise, you just need to be fitted with suitable shaft. I'm currently using VS Proto on 906F4 18.5*. The trajectory is nice and normal high a 18.5* wood would produce. My swing speed is around 95mph, by the way. If yours is a lot faster, I would suggest heavier shafts (VS Proto 85-S or NV 85-S) or even different kind of shafts (V2 or Prolaunch Red). From your sig, you're currently using Cobra LD 3-wood with NV. How does it play for you? Good? Best bet is to go with the same shaft. I heard that its cousin (VS Proto) would give a tad higher trajectory. Some say the 906F4 is a tough club to use off the deck due to its shallower face. Some other say they're easy. I'm with the latter group.

Hey guys, thanks for the answers.
I am going to TRY and get a 906.F4, 13.5* with a Prolaunch red OR a V2 in stiff flex in about 85-95g, as it is difficult for me to demo clubs (left handed).
I just want to know what the characteristics in trajectory, spin, torque, kick and dispersion.
Thanks!

I'm not satisfied with the cobra. The face is a little deep for my liking and since the shaft is 55g, it's a noodle and if I hit anything but really smoothly, it balloons on me. I'm so conflicted. 13.5 or 15.5 hmmph..

That's what I thought too the first time I tried LD Speed. If deep face isn't what you're looking for, 906F4 sure is the one you're looking for. It has 6 score lines compared to the F2 which has 7 score lines.

Between 13.5 and 15.5? Definitely 15.5 for me.

    • Still working on getting to lead side. Tonight I also tried some skill work with clubface awareness.  Hit foam balls.
    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
