This is a little bit off-topic, but today I was picking up some supplies, and I saw these:

I searched all over, but there was no company branding anywhere on the box. (In retrospect, I should have opened the box and a sleeve and looked at a ball, but I was in a hurry.)

Anyway, the only printing on the box was in tiny font and was Sumitomo Rubber Industries, which I recognized as Srixon's parent company, but which 99% of the golfball buying public probably wouldn't know.

Are these new? Why no reference to Srixon? Are they marketed as a low end ball (I think they were about $15) and Srixon doesn't want their brand name to be associated with discount balls.

Any info to satisfy my curiosity would be appreciated. Thanks!

I had a golf lesson on my putting and my pro said I should become consistent in using one ball. I am a mid-handicapper golfer on a varsity high school golf team and would like to find a reasonably-priced golf to use. I want something that is soft, but still have the distance I want on my tee shots(255-270 yds). I want to pay as much as $30 bucks or so for a dozen of them. I was looking at the Top Flite D2 Feel, Titleist DT Solo, Titleist NXT Tour 2008, Taylormade Burner TP, or Wilson Staff Zip ball. Any suggestions or recommendations would be helpful.

We have similar handicaps. For my money, I think the best value is the Taylormade Burner (non TP). I like the distance and the greenside spin is good, as well. I played one of my best rounds ever last night. I was about 50 yards from the hole, in the rough, with the pin placed on the upper tier. I hit my gap wedge to within three feet and the ball stuck! Made par. Good ball!

I have two boxes of the Burner TP. I have played a round with one. To me, the TP feels harder. I just don't like the feel off the club face with the TP as much as I do with the softer regular Burner. Therefore, the $19.95 box is more preferable to me than the $24.95 box of balls.

reasonably priced - NXT Tour.
Lower than that - Nike Juice aren't bad...or Callaway HX Tour/Hot

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
