Old time Tees

I have seen old time tees made out of Sand, are they still legal? I have a problem hitting a driver off a tee, but put it in the grass and I can hit it straight as an arrow, why I dont know. I can even use the driver from the fairway with success. Is there a natural grass type tee or anything?

As far as I know, there is no rule against using sand and water as a tee. It would get a little messy though.

There is a better way. Laura Davies, an English LPGA Tour player, takes an iron, and chops a clump of grass from the tee. She then tees the ball on the clump and hits away. I have tried it, and not really had great success. It might be worth a try for you.

PS, Don't use this tee method when the course Superintendent is around. He might get grumpy.

I would actually suggest working on your swing if you can't hit a ball off a tee...
