I'm new to the game, and after doing a fair amount of reading here, I'd like to pick up a gap wedge. Working around the green has been tough for me, and I'd like to focus in that area for now.

Unfortunately, I don't know the degree of my PW or SW. I have a set of Nickent 3DX irons that my brother gave me because they're too long for him, and Nickent has nothing on their site that I could find. Any help in putting me in the ballpark of what angle they are is much appreciated.

52*,54* are great GW, i played a round of 18 holes with a cobra FP gap wedge 54* and i loved it, great for those 100 yard approaches and working in certain situations close to the green, as i find the amount of roll just right.

If your asking me for my opinion, go with a 54* Of course this also depends on the degree of your SW a tad.

In my Black'n'Red :

Driver: R7 TP 460cc 10.5* Reax 65 stiff shaft
3 Wood: Tour Impact 15*
Irons: Tour Impact 3-PWWedges: Vokey Oil Can Spin Milled 54.10, Golfco Baron 58* SWPutter: Tracy II 35"Balls: Prov 1Age:16

call or go to your local pro shop and find the loft of the P and S wedge and go from there. odds are the P is around 45 or 46 degrees and the sand wedge will be around 56 degrees so a 54 degree gap wedge would be to close to your sand wedge. Look at a 52 or even a 50 degree gap if this is the case.

omg sorry the sand wedge is only 53 degrees that is pretty much a gap wedge right there use it as yoru gap and get a 58 degree lob insted, that would be my advice

Thanks, gents. I feel a bit sheepish for not being able to find the specs, but I'm myopic at times.

I live in a small town, and the only local pro shop opens in early August. I suspect it's best to wait until they open before I make any more purchases.

The GW and SW lofts for that model are really weird. Usually a GW is 52-54 degrees and sand is 54-56. I'd say you need to add a 56 degree as your real sand wedge and maybe a 58 or 60 for a real lob wedge.

For the record, my set is the 3DX, not the current 3DX RC, so I suppose they could be different.

    • Day 129: 5/4/24 Stack training but could not certify my warmup speed. Dealing with a pulled neck muscle. Chips and pitches at a local course for about 15 minutes.
    • Typically less than 50. I find this can be affected by the "CART" signs on a given course. I don't like taking my rangefinder out of the cart and carrying it around to the green. I am very fearful I will leave it somewhere.
    • First ever holed out greenside bunker shot! It's crazy it took this long to finally get one during a round, but the cold streak is officially over. Hole 6 on the Palmer Course at PGAN. I hit my driver like 225 into a really stiff wind, then worm burned a hybrid into the bunker. I was about I dunno, 40-45 feet away. Birdie! Let's go! The red Xs the approximate location of each shot.  Really fun!!
    • Day 23: Rained all day, so no ball hitting. Worked indoors on top of the backswing feel, and also putted around the living room working on bead.
    • Played Four Oaks in Dracut today going back to the 2 man scramble match play format. My brother and I shot a team 81 winning 3 and 2. Had so many good shots today using a more centered turn. Seems to have really iginited my golf game. We'll see if I can keep it going.
