Hi guys,

I'm a student so I don't have an out of this world budget. I'm hitting up ebay and golf stores to try and find a new driver for a reasonable price.

Currently I play a wilson firstick driver with a proforce 70 shaft.

I have just purchased a new set of tommy armour silverback irons and I love them. All I need now is a great driver I think.

I usually shoot low 100's to high 90's.

Im in the same boat as this man.

I was out yesterday and i broke my driver under the damn grip! The grip wasn't on right and it was moving and causing tension on the end of the shaft. I took a hard rip and the tippy tippy end broke off so now its floating around in the grip so i can't hit it .

So now i may be in the market as well!

I was thinking some of these, but i could be dead wrong.

I was hearing the cobra l4v was the longest/straightest one, but I can't get one for cheap.

I've looked at the taylormade r7 cause you can get those for quite reasonable on Ebay, but I don't know how that would work for my handicap.

I've also looked at teh nike sumo 5900 but I can't find that for cheap either.

I'm basically looking to hit a deal. I got my irons for 112 taxes in and they retail for 650.

The 2 most forgiving drivers I have tried were the Cobra from last year and this years Nike Square head. Both have an amazing ability to correct off center hits. I was looking for a driver about 6 months ago and tried a ton of them. These are not the best drivers out there, but IMHO they were the most forgiving.

Hey josh

Know anywhere I can get these for a great price in canada?

I'm not worried if they're a "discontinued" or "expired" model.

That's what my tommy armour irons are and I can hit them long and straight with no problem at all.

I've been looking at the R7's

but are they good for a mid to high handicapper?

Also, are the drivers there authentic, cause they come pretty damn cheap.

I've been thinking a 10.5 to 11 loft would be best.

Also, have you guys played the driver that I have now? Cause i'd like to know what people think of it.

The R7 is a great all around club, it might take a couple rounds to tame...but thats not a bad thing. It took me a couple rounds to tame a new putter and now i 2/1-putt every hole.

And yes those all were from a golf store and with good feedback, however they are all used.

if I buy one I want it brand new.

They are reasonably cheap online. I think a couple trips to the driving range would let me get used to it.

That's what happened with my wilson.

I think that the R7 would be a nice club, but I want to make sure i'm hitting it whip straight.

I've looked at the ping g10, and the l4v but I can't find it cheap on ebay.

There is a nevada bob's here in my town so i might call them to see if they have any old model drivers they're trying to clear out.

Have you tried the firestick?

Ping g10 is an AMAZING club if you can afford it, my grandpa has one and holy jeez.

But no i haven't tried a firestick before sorry , but i was hitting a wilson club before mine broke and they aren't bad clubs. The new technology just makes todays clubs easier to hit.

Best driver for someone shooting 100+ is NO driver at all. Hit a 3-wood off the tee. That is if you care about your scores.....................

Psh, I've been told that countless times, but i cannot hit a 3 wood. I can hit my driver 10x better than i can a three wood. Plus at this high of a handicap its a perfect learning point. Sure score matters but i think its easier to tame the beast now rather than later!

Steve,

I usually hit pretty consistently off the tee. I usualyl botch up about 2-3 drives per round.

The worst part of my game was my short game but getting use to my new putter allows me to put 1-2 per hole. Also, after getting a proper set of irons with a couple decent wedges my approaches have improved alot.

The new irons I have give a great feel and i'm hitting alot straighter. It was a big inconsistency for me and it improved greatly my last round after just playing with them one time.

I just want to make sure I get a few extra yards and a whip straight shot off the tee, so I figured a high quality driver would help me out here.

    • Day 7: got out my chipping net and worked on chipping in the living room for a solid 15 minutes. Worked on mostly low shots, but mixed in a couple of high shots as well.
    • Day 228 4-4 More hip/chest turn and wrist arching. Working on hinging wrist a bit later. Foam balls.
    • Day 27 (4 Apr 26) - Worked with grandson on basic pitches/punches in the back yard with varied irons/wedges.  Wrapped up the day rolling some putts on the 30’ carpet I can set up in the yard to give varied terrain - and this carpet rolls almost too easy. A great way to figure a read and know that pace has to be near perfect to get in the hole.
    • A bit of a struggle today.  Just some thoughts/musings.  For the backswing, it is like I am never going to be moving on from this. I don't know if I can ever get to the point where the backswing isn't like over 1.5 seconds in duration. Which is probably not ideal. I would like to get to the point where I can just fling the arms back and up.  I have to feel like my hands are going to hit my right thigh from P1 to P2. If not then they like to move 2-5 inches towards the ball from P1 to P2. Then it's just bad from there. This feeling is my hands not gaining much depth, just maintaining depth from set up. From the DTL view, the hands head towards the camera.  While I am doing that, hinge the crap out of the club with my wrist only. Hinge in a way that the club is pointing at the camera at P2.  From P2, lift the hands straight up. I can get here, and still roll the club inside and get it way too shallow.  With the downswing. There isn't much here. I still can't get the flow of this or the sequencing of this to line up. It doesn't help that hinging from P1 to P2 just throws off my entire timing as well.
    • Day 550 - 2026-04-04 Practiced in the sim at a club for awhile. Did a SW ladder and practiced for awhile with my 7I.
