I'm able to get my hands on a new FT-5 through a buddy of mine for a great price. This is to replace my 1995 Great Big Bertha 8.5* stiff which I hit pretty well (not sure if that info helps).

He has two he'll sell me:
  • FT-5 Tour 10.5* stiff neutral
  • FT-5 9* stiff neutral (not Tour)

I'm less concerned with the open/closed face differences between these, but I'm curious about the loft differences. I've seen some posts about the Tour models having a higher center of gravity, resulting in a lower launch angle.

Can anyone weigh in as to how big a difference the 1.5* loft will make with these two drivers?

Many thanks!

I switch from a 8.5* knock-off Titleist to the 907D2 9.5*. So that is only 1* degree of loft but my ball flight is alot higher now. I really liked the low penetrating flight before and it had more roll. I don't know much about the FT-5 but simply talking about loft I would go with the 9* because the 10.5* would likely go really high.

P.S. The shaft has a lot to do with it to. My old shaft was heavier and had a lower kick so now my new shaft hits it alot higher and it makes the ball fight way high with the high shaft and the loft diffierence.

Thanks Fredguay642,

That way my initial thought also, to stick with the lower loft. I was just wondering how the higher COG would effect the loft and if that would bring those two driver options (9* FT-5 &10.5* FT-5 Tour) closer together.

I just found another theard named "FT-5 vs. FT-5 Tour" kind of answers you question. Look it up. but tradewind_golfer wrote

"Picked up the FT-5 Tour 10.5* neutral with the stiff E-360(?) shaft. This is
definitely a "tweaked" version of the standard model.

Ok, here's what I notice:
1. It's a bit heavier and feels even more "stable" throughout the swing
2. The COG does seem just a touch higher (the 10.5* tour launches a bit lower
than the 10*)
3. Misses tend to be spread out more evenly left and right of center (not all left
and more left like with the regular FT-5).
4. The .5* open face is hardly noticeable but perhaps subconsciously it looks like
you can let it go."

Hope it helps
