I went to Golfsmith and checked it out. That thing is way too big. I do like the new 2-ball SRT putter though.

IIRC, Rory Sabbatini was using the Tri-ball last weekend.

No, Sabbatini was using the new Scotty Cameron heel shafted C5 putter at the Nissan Open. Its huge and may have some similarities to the Tri-ball but that was definitely the SC C5, not the Tri-ball. At least it was in all the pictures I saw, unless he was switching putters somewhere during the weekend.

The new Scottys look like the Tri-Ball without the SRT weights, at least on TV. Reminds me of the old Tommy Armour T-Line putters. Everything old becomes new again at some point...

Slightly off-topic, but Rory

did switch irons over the weekend. He started the tournament playing the Nike NDS Irons (wha?) and switched back to his trusty Pro Combos on Saturday. Weird.

No, he wanted to switch for Sunday, but his wife told him that would be freakin' crazy. According to GolfWeek, anyway.

Yeah, I guess I only read the interview where he said he was thinking about doing it. My bad. And yeah, it would've been freakin' crazy.

What's with the NDS irons anyway... aren't those kinda game-improvementy for a ballstriker of Rory's caliber?

I'll leave all the jokes about Rory needing game improvement aside for now since he won something...

Nike had more tour players using the NDS irons than they expected. Grace Park took the Pro Combos out of her bag for the NDS, and I'm pretty sure a couple PGA Tour players did the same, at least for a while. They're solid clubs. The Slingshot irons are much more of a game improvement iron than the NDS.

Sabbatini's one of those guys who is either red hot or ice cold. His swing must have a lot to do with timing. When he's got it dialed in, he is long and straight. And when he's off, he looks like he might struggle to break 85. And in today's high-launch era, he still hits line drives off the tee.

    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
