I've been very happy with Titleist Tour Prestige balls from Costco.

I think Costco is the only place you can get them. The web is saying $34 for a double dozen, but I'm pretty sure they are $29 at my Costco.

What's in my bag:
Cleveland Hibore XLS Monster Driver
TourEdge Exotics 2,3,4 hybrid irons
Tommy Armour 845cs Silverbacks 5-PW
Assorted wedges, Ping Scottsdale Anser

Seriously. I mean, I like a new ball - but it's mostly psychological - I think - at my level. But still, I like a new ball that doesn't make me feel like I total cheapskate and gives me a little (unfounded!) confidence. So I look for things like the Titleist TP. I played with my brother recently - the guy who finally got me to take up this game after 40 years. He's a pilot for AA (so $ is not the issue with him) and he drives the ball 300+ yards. He finds it amusing that I obsess over equip even at the level I do which is mild compared to what goes on here Before heading up for our camping/golfing weekend, we stopped to buy him some golf balls. He asked for cheapest ball they had. They gave him a double dozen tube of Wilsons for like $13.99. He had the low score of the weekend with an 85 which isn't bad for a guy plays once or twice a year at best for the past 8 years... in his prime, he was probably a 5 handicapper and he never took it that seriously. Anyway, your friend? - at a 30 handicap, unless $ is not an issue - I wouldn't spend anything more than $10 for a dozen balls because I imagine he's still losing quite a few.

I had $ to waste when I was just starting, but I figured why. I lose about 10 balls a round ,the pricy ones look and feel the same to me, might as well put a cheap ball in the lake and not a pricy one. I love it when the 30+ buy the expensive balls, cause I find them all over my club. If you like a new ball great, now at my level I prefer a little nicer ball, but don't want to spend the 30$-50$ a dz. I would do just fine with the blue light special.

    • 39, +4. A bit better hip slide stuff. More lateral, less turn with the hips.
    • Day 11: Worked on putting with the metronome
    • I added to total today by hopping it in on the first hole for an eagle. A short par 4, I hit 4 wood to 110. With a little breeze in my face I hit a 50 degree gap wedge to 2 feet and watched it hop into the hole for an eagle 2!
    • Sounds good. Text me if you have any questions. You have a good setup, too, and so long as you can get good camera angles… you should be good. https://skillest.com/@iacas
    • Day 14 (September 18).  Morning practice, despite questionable weather (it's raining).   Worked on chipping at first, including run-ups with UW and PW;  I've noticed lately some of my near-GIRs are missing forward, with nothing but grass ahead of me, but 20-30 yards to the pin.  After a few misadventures putting those lately, I wanted to at least get a feeling for what a 30-yard chip shot that doesn't have the variance of my quarter lob wedge would feel like.  I still think "putt when you can putt" is right, but... I am less sure I have a 30 yard putt in me.  Range time also, of course, same routine as the past week or so (drill, 3-4 slow shots, etc).   Did not get to the putting green as it was starting to come down a bit more. Darn, it really is raining.  And I thought today would be a perfect day to play, seeing as how it's 9-18 and all.
