It finally came in this afternoon.

My son and I stopped at the golf shop on our way over to the First Tee course.

The course is a 6 hole affair: 4 par 3's, 1 par 4 and 1 par5, thus limiting my opportunities. Since it was 98 degrees we decided against hitting any range balls for loosening up.

We had fun on the first couple of holes...my son improving nicely every outing. His focus and desire to get it right is so encouraging. I'm just there to keep it light and keep him laughing.

Finallly got a chance to use it on the third hole. Took a practice swing and noted the nice limber feel of the shaft...certainly more lively than my old driver. My young son, ever the swing coach, picked out a target line for me to hit on. His choice fit my eye, too.

Ball teed up to the equator just as my old driver and a slow and low takeaway...nice wide arc with the wrists hinging on their own and then a smooth acceleration through the ball and into a nice finish. The ball came off the face hot and straight as an arrow. It never waivered from the target line. Nice trajectory, much higher than my older driver....very nice result.

Went out to the ball and checked the distance....268-270 yards. Not a bad result for a first swing.

Hit another good one on the par 5.

I can see that I'm going to enjoy golf so much more now that I am getting much improved positioning in the fairways. Being able to carry hazards is going to be awesome.

It's sure gonna take some pressure off my long irons and hybrid into greens.

Have to work this weekend, although I may take some comp time on Saturday afternoon and hit the range on the way home.

We have a round set up Monday on a course that I've played several times since getting back into the game in May. It's gonna feel great flying past my previous attempts.

Thing that I have to remember with this very long shaft is to accelerate smoothly...not jumping on it. The wider arc and stable stance will ensure good clubhead speed and distance.

The only downside is the stupid headcovers that PING and others have gone to lately. Bring back the long sock part that protects the shafts. The new trend is not for me. Small gripe, indeed....I'll take the smooth distance and live with the retro headcover.

Thanks....I'm gonna try. Things should be a bit easier with a driver that I can swing in a smooth tempo and accurately smash it out there a good distance. Santa came early this year!!!!

Good luck on you shaft. I'm just really learning the importance of proper shafts with my last set of irons and these new woods.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
