Munis or all public courses?

Because there are a ton of fantastic courses open to the public in the Austin area. Austin is a golf mecca. As far as munis, in addition to the ones you mentioned: Morris-Williams Lions Hancock http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/golf.htm Get out and play Lions before the lease with the University of Texas expires and the University retakes the land, eliminates the golf course, and develops the land. http://www.statesman.com/news/conten.../0706muny.html And keep an eye on Longhorns Charlie Holland and Bobby Hudson this year. Hudson just cracked the top 25 on the R&A; Amateurs Ranking (#22).

Depending on how much you want to spend and your location there are several nice courses within 15 min of Austin. Plum Creek in Kyle is great. Also Blackhawk in Pflugerville is nice as well.

Yah, I'm psyched every day to get out and play. I get free rounds at Clay/Kizer but I've played out there 30+ times. I practice my wedge game and putting daily and I'm shooting in the low 90's but I'm not sure if I should make the transition to a more difficult course so soon.

How are you getting free rounds there? I havent been yet and wouldnt mind trying them out.

My little secret. (not really, my girlfriends best friends dad is a local tour pro) She makes the call out there and they know who her dad is. Let's go play sometime.

They have the best driving range, since it's real grass and not dumb mats. It's my favorite even though it's not open at night, even though they're fully equipped with lights, which is just silly in Texas weather.

      It's been a remarkable slow start for me this year, but I finally cracked through with my first two birdies of the year over the weekend. Ironically they were the 18th at Community (Hills) GC Saturday and then No. 1 at Miami Shores on Sunday. Don't ask about the rest of them. For the purposes of the chart, I'll just use Miami Shores. Most of the golf I play any more is there and normally the front nine only.

      39-35 today for a +2 (74) on a 72.6/129. Struggled over the first few holes as I bogeyed five straight to start. Wasn't even striking the ball bad - just couldn't hit a green and didn't hit good chips + one penalty. Then I went -3 over the next 6 to save the round and then parred the last 7. Golf is fun.
