ok so i went to the range today to work out the kinks with my driver. towards the end i decided to hit my 4-hybrid to get a good judge of range i can get with it. i usually hit it like a driver with the ball just a little behind where it normally is with a drive off the tee. i tried to hit it like an iron with the ball in the dead center of my stance. i couldnt hit it for the life of me and when i did get good contact i sliced the crap out of it!?! once i line it up like normal in the front of my stance, i cracked it to 150 yds on an easy swing. so am i supposed to hit it like an iron, or wood?
oh ya i pulled out my 7i for reference and same thing. once i moved the ball up in my stance a little bit i hit it well. i do tend to never take a divot with my irons either. seems when i do take even a small divot the shot is way too fat. thanks for any help.

I tried hitting my hybrid like everyone says (middle of my stance) and I slice it too. I found that if I play it slightly foreward in my stance it works much better.
However, if you had the same result with your 7-iron, Id say something is wrong with your swing. Sounds like maybe your timing is off or you grip is wrong.

I play my hybrids like a play all my other irons. Just in front of center, but I only take a very small divot with them. If I try and play it like a wood in the front of my stance, I either pull the hell out of it, or hook it big.

If you're more comfortable playing it like a wood, then go nuts. I would say there's really no right or wrong way to position a hybrid. If you start to pull it though, you may want to consider moving it back a little in your stance.

One last piece of advice when it comes to hybrids, and you said it yourself is don't over swing. Since it looks like a wood, you may have a tendency to try and rip it like one, but all you have to do is make a smooth swing and the ball will take off.

    • Day 6: lighter session today after a long day. Just some mirror work and slow swings to try to get my feels down.
    • @Philip Belgium,  If I haven't already, Welcome to TST.  Your injury sounds serious and I hope you fully recover.   Thanks for sharing your story.  ..... each day get 1-2% better.   (A ray of sunshine and a positive outlook)
    • Day 91 (1  Aug 25) - Pre-tournament practice round today…had some great up and downs for par saves.  Rain came in this evening so it will be a totally different playing course tomorrow.
    • Jesus, when he keeps saying scissoring moment, ugh that is a horrible sounding phrase. Just makes me cringe. It doesn't help my mind went to Mr. Garrison from South Park. 🤣 If you know you know.  I think for the most part, golf shaft companies have gotten this figured out. They ask questions like, what tempo do you swing at. The whole scissor terminology sounds like they want to stand out a bit.  Yea, golfers load the golf shaft differently, and different bend profiles can help out. I do think swing speed matters as well. You probably want a golf shaft with lower torque if you swing faster.
    • Played 9 holes, shot a 39.  Kind of got around. Everything between the trees, so in play. Short game was rusty. Got to get back on that. Greens were stupidly slow because they got a lot of rain yesterday and probably couldn't cut them down. Usually in the summer they are firm and pretty fast for how sloped they are. Got to work on face to path a bit.
