I finally got my swing up. It's not too much but I'll probably add more when I have the time. The quality is pretty bad because I edited it to make it shorter and the quality went to crap.

This is my 8i and I usually hit a high, slight draw. Sometimes I push it or get a slice. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like a nice swing to me, right elbow could be a little closer to your body during the backswing/swing and also at the top of your backswing looks like your club is pointing a little right of your target line. But your swing looks pretty good.

Thanks TreeMagnet!

I never noticed how crouched over I was over the ball. You guys think that may be a reason why I chunk it sometimes?

tonny,

Your swing looks good except a few things I see.

1) I don't know if this is true, but it looks like your right foot is pointing closed (to the right) a few degrees. If so, I'd straighten it out to prevent too much back swing rotation that I'm seeing as well.

2) Your back swing looks too flat. Your club shaft should be pointing straight back to the viewer when it's horizontal. Yours is 30° inside already. At the top, your club shaft is pointing to the right about 15-20°. Try to keep it down the line or less. This way you don't become "handsy" in order to get the club back into the inside slot during the downswing.

3) Your hips are rotated too far back at the top. I can see that you're rotating both the shoulders and hips simultaneously from address. Try rotating back with the shoulders only and let them pull the hips back. You'll get more coil and maybe your back swing will become more compact.

4) At impact, your hips look open about 45°. This is good! But your shoulder pivot is only at around 0°. They should have caught up to your hips by impact. I think the reason for this is that your hands are not synced with your chest, as they lag way behind (from the top through the impact area.) This could be a reason why you're chunking the ball. You should try to keep your hands in front of your chest.

5) You straighten up a little (3 inches) during the downswing, hitting zone, and impact areas. I can see your head raise up. From the top, laterally hip bump 3-4" max. towards 1:00 o'clock (12:00 o'clock being the target line.) To do this correctly, push off with your right foot's instep and ball. Keep your head back. Maintaining a flat right foot during the downswing, and not letting your heel rise so much, will promote upper torso pivoting.

Thanks MPS67, I really appreciate the critique. I went to the range tonight and straightened up at address. I also put my hands directy beneath my chin and looked up more. I was definitely hitting a lot more consistent.

Also on #5, I'm not exactly sure what you're saying, any way you could elaborate on it?

I revised my setup and swing. I've been hitting a lot more consistent. I posted up another video, anything else I can fix?

http://www.swingacademy.com/swingana...l.aspx?id=1595

The vid seems to lag for some reason through the swing. My normal swing is a bit faster than that.

Tonny, is there a way you can give us a front facing video?

I see some positive change in that you're keeping your right foot and body down during the swing. Your back foot looks good too.

I'm still seeing problems with items #2,3, and 4 from my previous post.

For reference, here's a video that covers the topic of keeping the right foot down.

This video may help you understand the hip bump/weight shift direction.

Thanks a lot for the videos. I'm gonna try them out.

Edit: I'll also get a face on view tomorrow as well.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
